Poured from 355mL bottle (year isn't listed, but based on the description not including "Wild Turkey" bourbon, not having almonds (from early year vintages), and being 11% abv, I'm guessing this is the 2021 vintage - confirmed inside the bottle cap is stamped "21" so 2021 vintage!). Near black with no head. Mild coconut and molasses with underlying bourbon permeating throughout. Seems like the age didn't quite hold up, it's a touch boozy, but still decent.

Looks not great, opaque and dull. But it’s bright and juicy on the palate, grapefruit, pineapple, and then there’s a bit of rye in the finish, which sort of clashes with the fruit. But it is good, as Skookum hazies usually are.

Opaque, medium head, sort of a thin brew, like gluten free or something, low bitterness. With Nelson & Rakau but not getting much of a bright hop note…this one is not coming together as much as I was hoping.

Hazy appearance. Floral and peachy hop accents. The malt base is just okay... most recent visit something was off either with the malts or maybe the yeast was getting tired because the beers were structurally unsound.

Hazy appearance. The malts aren't that great, and it lets the entire beer down. Decent bitterness. Slight rye chewiness. It's okay.

Hazy. Big weedy, citrusy enigma character. Medium bitterness. That's a really nice hop character.

Hazy, kind of murky looking. Medium head. Creamy body. Has a floral, tropical papaya note, and low bitterness.

So this is an hommage to Bert Grant, who made the first West Coast IPA at Grant's Brewing in Yakima in the early 80s. It wasn't as strong as this is, but it was quite a bit hoppier, more bitter. This is a bit chewy, raisiny, some grapefruit. The hop character isn't bad but the malts are quite gloppy, whereas Grant's IPA was quite lean. Still, this is a part of the story most people don't know anymore.

Black body. Big oaky umami nose. Liquorice, chocolate, bourbon, oak and waves of rich complex sugars. Some heat in the finish. Excellent. One of their best yet.
