Description
The brewing tradition in Helsinki is hundreds of years old. The latest chapter of this story began in 1995 on the island of Suomenlinna right outside of the city. It is here that a one man brewery was founded in the former jetty barracks. The brewery has grown to be home for a small group of dedicated professionals, all passionate about beer culture in Finland. Now Suomenlinna Brewery is one of the largest local breweries in town.

The rich history at this UNESCO world heritage site has been the inspiration for many new beers at Suomenlinna Brewery. Each beer and cider we brew has its own story to tell. When professional attitude and modern technology are combined, the end results are bold, honest, high quality drinks. Our special releases are a sign of our inspiration to create and to try new things.

When you drink a Suomenlinna beer or cider we hope you taste our commitment to quality and creativity. Come visit our brewery on the island of Suomenlinna, the pearl of the Helsinki archipelago. We hope you enjoy every sip. Kippis!

Light amber color, small white head. Pale malty, yeasty, white bread aroma. Pale malty, then very hoppy bitter. Light sweetness in the aftertaste with bitterness. Quite close to Suokki from same brewery, but staff at the booth claimed that this is a different beer.

Draught. Yellowish golden colour with mediumsized white creamy head. Aroma is flowery hops, yeast, earth and rather grainy. Flavour is pleasant earthy hops with some sweet malts and mild grassyness. Easy to drink. Once it got warmer it got some mild notes of dough in it too.

(Re-rate on 2008-10-29, real ale version at Olutkellari Helsinki) Almost black. Tiny tan coloured head. Yesty aromas, roastedness and tiny bit of coffee in nose. Full bodied palate with light to medium carbonation. Liquorice, hint of metallic flavours, tiny bit of sweetness, bitterness, coffee, ashy flavours a little and hint on burnt malts in taste. Sweetish and bitter aftertaste. It’s great that the brewery began to produce real ales and succeeded in it really well. (Draught at Olutkellari Helsinki on 2008-04-12) Black. Not much head. Roasted malts in nose. Roasted malts in taste, too. Some coffee. 6-4-6-3-12=3.1
