Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.
Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

I cannot believe that a brew master tasted this and said yes this is good. I had one sip and that's all I can handle. Total drain pour. Way too sweet. The flavors don't match or balance. Disaster. What a stupid purchase.

Can 355ml (AIH196) Golden colour, small white head and some lace. Orange, juicyness with some breadyness. Light-bodied. Citrus, dill, orange and some malts. Basic, maybe a bit too old.

Pint can from Jack's Fresh Mart Menominee, MI. 6/25/24. Looks thick when poured. Clear dark red, large tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, mandarins, grapefruit, pine. Taste is toffee, grapefruit, pine, stone fruit, caramel. Full bodied, strong bitterness. Almost comes across like a barleywine and reminds me of Arrogant Bastard. Nice.

Notes from 10/28/2008. Forgot about a can of this in the back of the fridge that I received from Pitmonkey in a trade last year. Only remembered it once I got my hands on this year's batch. Short arms & the fact that I haven't changed the bulb in there in a long time means there are always surprises. :) Pours out ugly from both cans. Sediment-y, hazy, & greasy-looking, it saves itself a bad score with a strong cascading effect that builds into a nice bit of fluff topping off the glass. A little stiffer in the vintage stuff, which looks a touch more grainer & dirty after it settles. More caramel in the nose of the older one, but both are dominated by dry-hopping. A little more resiny in the elder, where the newer stuff is more sharp with citrus. Touch more rye twang in the fresh stuff, maybe some honey-ish notions, but both have a considerable talcum drying effect leading the way to zesty juiciness. A feels more grainier then B, but both powder on the hops. Not an intense bitterness, but very constant after the brief unfamiliarity in the beginning. All left turns once you get past the intersection of rye & malt. My tongue is a bit numb to boot.

10.5 oz draft at The Burg & Barrel in Overland Park, Kansas. The pour is a slight haze orange golden with a well formed one inch white head. The aroma is bright hop bitter resin and a nice malt sweetness. The taste is initially resin hop, dry floral, then moves into clean fresh malt. Bright flavors, with not much alcohol present. The palate is medium bodied with soft natural carbonation and the warming soft sweet finish, really integrates the alcohol level well.
