Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.
Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

12 ounce can from Jack's Fresh Mart Menominee, 4/21/24. Hazy peach, medium white head, average retention. Aroma of melon, grapefruit, hay. Taste is grapefruit, melon, pine, dank, tangerine. Hint of booze. Well balanced.

Bottle from CBC Westford--finally got this bad boy! Opaque dark brown--virtually black--thin, creamy head, light lacing. Aroma is strong raisin, cherry, toffee, milder chocolate, coffee. Taste is strong sweet malt and toffee over milder roasted malt/coffee, hint of dark fruit. Smooth texture, medium bodied, no sign of alcohol, finish as taste. Glad to have this legendary brew. While complexity is good, strength pales in comparison to modern-day adjuncted stouts.

GTMW 2023. Aged in Parkers Reserve. Whiskey is not noticeable, quite dry, bitter and hoppy, just a hint of sweet malt. Not my thing.

They hacked this one. Totally out of balance. Way overdone lemon against a little bit of chocolate. Could have been nice if it would have been more balanced but barely drinkable. I hope that I can finish instead of dumping it. Praise be. Seems to be AKA Chocolate Lemoncello Darkness.

Very disappointing from Surly. Almost $9 for this beer and smoke is barely perceivable in the aroma and none in the flavor. A weak and sad effort that should have been dumped by the brewery.
