Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.
Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

On tap at Surly, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma has plenty of cola flavouring, along with orange peel, vanilla extract and plenty of sugars. Flavour is sweet and syrupy, with cola syrup, orange peel, and sugars. I guess this is executed alright, but I dont like the concept. Its alright.

On tap at Surly, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma has tons of lemon peel, a touch of cacao, and roast in the back. Flavour is very lemony and somewhat tart, with intense lemon peel, tartness, some cocoa, and a little oak. Lots of lemon and citric acid. Better as it warms but its a bit rough. Decent.

On tap at Surly, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is full of rum barrels upfront, followed by vanilla, and subtle bourbon further backplenty of dark sugars and roast to back. Flavour is extremely rich, with intense rum barrels, roasted malt, light vanillin, and gentle bourbon. Massive rum and wood character, borderline brutal and overbearing, but its nice in 1-2 ounces. Very solid.

On tap at Surly, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma has intense allium notes, some booze, and some resinous hops this is chaotic. Flavour is a little more integrated, with plenty of booze and sugars, but also oniony hops, some pine, and resins. Not too well-integrated. Its alright but clearly messy and uncoordinated.

On tap at Surly, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma has piney hops, allium, and some tangy hops. Flavour is potent piney hops, then comes the allium, finishing bitter and dry. Get rid of the Citra and this would improve. Allium bomb.

Dark brown with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have a certain coffee note but strangely not with a roasted note. More like a coffee flavoured piece of chocolate. Perhaps due to an underlying sweetness from the base Brown Ale.
