From tap, apparently the last keg available, put on at McKenzies Minneapolis. Huge thanks to hellomynameis for letting me know about this being on! Pours black with a brown rim, thick creamy brown head which looks like lovely chocolate cream. Aroma is a complex sweet coffee, chocolate and liqourice blend, slight molasses note. Thick mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet, complex blend of liqourice and chocolate. A distinct fruity note that is non-citric, seems like peach to me. Finish is a long mellow sweet blend of the chocolate and coffee notes hitting a wonderfull bitterness. You keep tasting the chocolate on your lips and the bitterness on you tongue. Very lovely and perfectly balanced.
RBSG Second sample at the brewery didn’t have th peach note and was more hoppy and fresh compared to the McKenzies tapped version.

Big thanks to Quake1028 for binging this one along. I’ve been looking forward to trying it.
Pours a murky orange to copper color with off white head out of a 16oz can. Huge hop aroma of pine hop bitterness. It is simply a firm slap in the nose of citrus hops. The flavor is just like the aroma with just huge pine hop bitterness and not nearly as big grapefruit hop bitterness too. I can just sense a sweet maltiness way way in the back of the big pile of hops. Very nice true hop monster of a beer.

Pours very deep amber with nice tan head. Slightly sweet caramelized malt and slightly nutty aroma. The aroma is a bit on the light side. The flavor has that nuttiness along with a soft rye-ish quality that I’ll take as being the oatmeal. Tasty brown ale with plenty of interest.

Can from IrishBoy (thanks, richard) - medium amber pour, with a lasting, frothy, eggshell white head - agressive, piney hop bite in the aroma, with some earthy, herbal qualities - I’ve never tasted this kind of malt in anything other than a scottish ale, and it’s flavor really works well with the dry, hoppy, grassy character - sure, it winds up tasting like a super-hoppy scottish ale, but what’s wrong with that? - toasty, dry, biscuity notes and a hint of woodiness - this is some quality stuff.

Can courtesy of Sammy: Poured a deep dark brown color ale with huge dirty white foamy head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of piney and citrus hops is huge and dominating the aroma. Taste is a mix between strong caramel and toffee malt with some sweetness balancing the strong piney and citrus hops. The ending is quite bitter as you can imagine but some subtle floral notes were providing more complexity which was appreciated. Body is full with some low filtration which was quite enjoyable.

1 pint can courtesy of theisti, damn cool pint cans, I love the gimmick, thanks Tim. Poured into a wine glass with medium-light head. Its a darker IPA with a dark thick reddish amber color. Cannot see through it, some light translucence, some clarity. Aroma really in the DIPA territory - lots of hops and ample caramel maltiness. A citrus-y pine tree with ammonia type sweetness. Taste is too hop-water, which I often dislike. A bit thin on other flavors leading to an overly abrasive hop flavor that ends in a long too strong bitterness. Moderate carbonation. 7/4/6/3/15
Re-rate: Tea Bagged Furious version, sampled at Darkness day. This was very different than the first batch of the cans that I tried (maybe I should revisit the cans as well). Obviously, the aroma is much happier but without being aggressive either. The cool thing is that the flavor lost that caramel maltiness that made the beer too mucky and sweet. It was also very dry at the back end and much better attenuated. I liked this stuff a lot more. 7/4/7/3/16.

Can from IrishBoy (thanks!) - dark amber with a tan head - roasty, nutty aroma, with hints of wood and vanilla - smooth, creamy mouthfeel, with a medium body, nicely bittered, with a slight bit of roasty/smokey notes to compiment it - well-intergrated flavors of hazelnut and vanilla - slight herbal/spice qualities - very well balanced - I would love to have regular access to this.

The least impressive Surly beer to date. A sweet and malty beer, and unusual for Surly, no hops. I do sense some smoke and peat. Amber color. I would sum this up as a sweet dunkel witih amped up abv.
