Description
Great Beer Above All Else

Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.

Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

Can from theisti. Pours with a light copper color with a small head. Lots of light but cannot see through it. Aroma is malty breadiness and some faint flowery hoppiness with a growing grassiness as it warms. Taste is similar with some light sugar candy sweetness on the back end of the flavor. It’s a decent beer but just kind of uninteresting, just too plain of a Saison. Finishes a bit bitter and lightly yeasty sweet. I do pick up just faint corn/macro flavor here and there. 7/3/7/3/14

I believe that was the first batch of Cynic I had. I finally tried this again hoping for something better but did not get it. Shaker pour @ Stub and Herbs. Basically, its just not a good Saison. Its way to sweet, not lively, not effervescence and the malts and hops are way off. It does have a Belgian yestiness but its muffled but all this not to style characteristics. They could have called this an IPA as well its so allover the place. Its just not what I want when I am looking for either a hoppy beer or especially a Saison. 7/3/6/3/13

Can courtesy of Stine: Poured a cloudy dark brown color ale with a nice foamy head with better then average retention. Aroma of caramel malt with light bitter hops. Taste is also dominated by caramel with some light bitter hops. Body is quite full with some great carbonation. Overall, I was a bit disappointed with this one considering the brilliance of the two other offerings I had from this fine brewer.

Pint can from Blue Max in Burnsville, MN. Pour is almost clear orange-gold with a medium sized slightly off-white head. Aroma is cloves, bananas and spicy Belgian yeast. Nice, almost wheatiness to initial taste with a sour / sharp hop bitterness to the finish. A bit of earthiness throughout. There is quite a bit going on in this one. Another very interesting style-buster from Surly.

Can. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is lovely hoppy with notes of grapefruit and caramel. The flavor is sweet and extremely hoppy, that makes it very dry and grassy, combined with notes of pine needles and grapefruit. Thanks to yespr for bringing this to Denmark.

Can. A hazy orange beer with an off-white head. The aroma is sweet flowery hoppy and with strong notes of fruit - especially peaches. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and again strong notes of fruit - peaches and oranges, leading to a very dry and bitter finish. Thanks yespr for bringing this to Denmark.

(Can 47,3 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Pours a beautiful, clear chestnut brown with a tall and handsome, dense, beige head. Fresh and very fruity nose. Medium body, perhaps a bit flat in carbonation, with fresh accents of nuts and vitamins. The finish is rather bitter. 290607

(Can 47,3 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Clear, amber golden with an off-white head. Very piney nose. Medium body with lightly sweet caramel malt but otherwise dominated by the extremely dry aroma hops. Really dry as a bone - quinine-like. 290607

(Can 47,3 cl) Courtesy of yespr. Pours a slightly hazy, deep golden with a white head. Aroma of exotic fruits. Medium body, sweetish malts and again these very fruity and exotic accents in the flavour. The finish is rather hoppy and astringent. Quite an unusual brew. 290607

From tap at the brewery. Pours slight hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is citric and cardemom. Flavours is dominated by spice (cardemom?) and bitterhops. Strong flavours, slight soapy but not too bad. Well brewed but I’m not a fan of the spice (cardemom?).

Sample from tap at the brewery. Pours dark brown to black with a brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and coffee. Flavour is coffee with malts kicking in a bit later. Long bitter finish. Adding 1 overall due to the coffee compared to the regular bender, I really enjoy that.
