Description

Brewery closed, brand still existing brewed at owners facilities (Gräflich von Mengersen'sche Dampfbrauerei Rheder).

Pours dark copper from the bottle and leaves a fluffy sand colored head. Aroma is lemon with light undertones of roasted caramel malt and banana. Taste is tart, sour lemon. The sourness carries through into the finish. Refreshing, but too one dimensional in the taste.

Pours clear gold from the bottle. Crown is white and foamy. Aroma is grainy, grassy, with occassional hints of locker room sweat. Taste remains sweet with a light souring near the finish, but overall uneventful on a palate that stays refreshing yet not quite watery. Okay if dull. Acceptable with a wide range of food.

Bottle (ottos versand homburg): Golden, cloudy, lots of floaties visible, small and persistent off-white head;moderate sweet nose of ripe bananas, some caramelly wheat underneath, shy traces of sourish-fruity yeast; moderate sweetish-sourish flavour with a more than delicate bitterness; medium bodied, neither soft nor fizzy; lingering wheaty-yeasty finish with caramel, a certain alcohol-burn and a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Not great, but quite O.K. ...

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, deep golden to amber colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Mildly bitter and delicately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a slightly sharp carbonation. Mildly bready cara-malty base with slightly fruity and spicy hops, leading into a bitter-sweet cara-malty and spicy hoppy finish. A rather unrefined brew. 07.X.16
