(can) clear pale yellow colour with a tall, white head; aroma starts with noble hops, then cake; balanced, simple and unremarkable flavour with a medium long, light bitter finish

Can from Jusco. Deep amber orange color, clear, with a tall, airy head. Nose is a bit tinny, with caramel, light raisin, and a touch of chocolate. Very simple. Flavor is slightly better, slightly chewy caramel and malts, dried fruit, chocolate fudge. Body is too thin, though. Somewhat bitter finish. Passable but less than memorable dunkel.

Can from Family Mart. Drank straight from the can. Caramel and light fruit esters on the nose. Taste is more of the same with some wet paper. Sweet on the palate with a sweet finish. Gets boozy as it warms up. Pass. --- Beer merged from original tick of The Premium Malts Houjun Ale (θ³ιγ¨γΌγ«) on 30 Aug 2015 at 00:23 - Score: 4

Tall boy can. PRetty orange-brown, clear, low head. Nose is kind of typical for an industrian Japanese ale: estery, peaches, oranges, caramel. Ok, nothing special. Falvor is a bit better, some caramel sweetness, full malt character, esters, earthy hops. Not bad.

Pours amber, quite clear. Initially comes with a nice foamy head but that is gone in seconds and whatβs left looks pretty flat. Aroma is as neutral as you can have - slight sweet fruitiness and bit of grains. Thats it. Taste is more of the same, super mild, slight fruitiness and bit of malts, hops... not in my beer. Well, drinkability is super high, 6% is not showing at all - but overall pretty bland and with no character. Drinks as water though, nothing off-putting there.

Pour light brown, not much head. Aroma is cardboard, sweetish malt, caramel. Taste is similar - sweet and nutty with a bit of candy. Aftertaste short. Overall this is even almost drinkable, but still, not really even any good as a crafty beer, feels as if they just adjusted some usual beer with some chemicals to alter the taste. Suntory should be able to do better.

Very clean beer that I had for the first time in a long time the other day. It wasnβt nearly as hoppy as I remember, but I also remember there are several versions produced in Japan using slightly different hops and malts, though it never mentions this on the can. Nice clean malt character, well brewed beer and much better than macros in the West.

5% drunk from the can it has a sweet malty lemon iced tea aroma. Medium bodied with a soda like carbonation. An earthy bitterness and those sweet tea like notes. A bit of toffee in the finish, ok.

Despite the fact this beer gets slammed. I thought it wasnβt too bad. It was light, fruity with mild hoppiness. No where near a traditional bitter, but good cross over beer for the masses. I canβt complain about this beer too much, though certainly nothing something I would want to have every day.
