Can. Deep golden color. Medium head. Malty nose, light fruits and caramel. somewhat biscuity. sweet, malty, fruity flavor, grapes and cherries. Grassy hops. Definitely full bodied. Nicely bitter finish. Not bad at all. Hides the 7%. Not that special, but decent.

Tap at Hachiko Grill, Kyoto Station. Pretty red-brown color with a tall, fine head. Malty, slightly nutty nose, caramel. Rather sweet, fruity flavor, cherries and caramel. Very smooth, with fine carbonation. A light alt, decent but lacking the proper bitterness of the great ones.

Can from 7-11. Deep golden, clear, high head. Rich, malty nose, bread, biscuits, light grassy hops. Nice flavor, dortmunder like, sweet, rich malts with good hoppy presence in the back. Full, creamy. Decent stuff.

Another bland Japanese lager, available everywhere on draft and often the 200-300 yen beer as nama. Pours a pale fizzy yellow with a white head. Cold no aroma & not much flavor. As it warms up some grass, hay, grain notes show up but be sure to finish the glass before it gets too warm or it’ll be pretty bad. Drinkable but only just.

Sip from my mate’s. Thin and watery, with a bit of maltiness but not really, and some chemical tastes. Not much body to speak of. Maybe a touch of hops. Gross.

Can. Orange-amber color with a medium, fine head. Rich malt, caramel, some stone fruit, light hops. Decent malt flavor, caramel, cherry, bread. Light grassiness and fruitiness, pretty nice, peppery, prickly bitterness at the finish. A good beer for a major, and pretty interesting in approaching a Vienna.
