About
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.

Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).

Clear golden, small, foamy, off-white head. Aroma of apple peel, plum, cheese, yeast, bread crust, mandarin, vague coriander. Taste has sweetish apple & plum, bit wheaty, yeasty, spicy. Grassy hoppy finish, ongoing yeasty effect and notes of unripe yellow fruits. Medium body, slick-watery texture, average carbonation. Correct, nothing more.

Pour is a murky dark brown with a average tan head. Aroma is molasses and dark fruit. Flavor is more sweet molasses and raisin and finishes with some cocoa powder. This was decent but nothing that would wow your sock off at the same time.

Pour is more of a hazy tan with average white head. Lots of yeast cake junk came out of the bottle. Aroma is musty dark fruit and some candi sugar. Flavor is a slight sweet dark fruit but also a big alcohol note. Booze is not hidden at all. Finish is hot with not much else noticeable. Not up to typical Belgian standards with this one.

Bottle at In Den Rozenkraus, Leuven. Little aroma. Standard gold with micro sediment. Taste was nice until I tried and then it just gave me booze. Very strange. How can the taste go from Hero to zero upon tasting. Before it was giving me a lovely blonde / saison mix. Now it's giving me paper and booze. How strange. Some nice witty endings. Very very hard one, gonna go in the middle.

Clear orange blond beer, small creamy yellowish head, bit adhesive. Aroma: malty, grains, bit yeasty, metallic, solvents. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: malty touch, nice bitterness, bit metallic, grassy, yeasty, some banana. Aftertaste: nice and dry, bitter finish, malty, little sweet, banana, grassy and herbal, bit soapy.

Clear deep brown beer, big creamy beige head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: paint, pretty chemical, very yeasty, spicy, caramel touch, malty, some cherries. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit sweet, some cherries, sugary, bit malty, some caramel, soft acidity. Aftertaste: sweet, sugary, cherry, candy, soft acidity, tastes like a weird blend of probably Cuvée Watou Rouge and Kapittel Prior or something… Not bad, not great either.
