Le Clos Noirval, Manneville-la-Pipard, 14130, France
Description
Friends for more than 20 years, Pierre-Emmanuel and Xavier grew up together in Normandy. They had the ambition to modernize the first alcoholic beverage consumed by any young self-respected Normand : the cidre.
Determined by the desire to create a quality, hand-crafted, French product and by the aspiration to come back to the source / back to basics, they aimed at increasing the value of a decisively modern product, forgotten despite its numerous energetic and gustatory qualities.
(“Gluten-free, 100 % natural, the least calorific alcoholic drink”- it has less than 50 calories for a glass of 15cl).
Helped by a cellar master with a well-known expertise, Pierre-emmanuel and Xavier have been developing their project for more than one year. Their work resulted in the launch of Sassy, the first contemporary cider brand “Made in Normandy”.

Bottle from Monoprix shared at sjogro's. Clear pale yellow golden with not much head. Dry pear skins, pear juice, CO2, grassy, very mineral, chalk, dry lime peel. Light sweet, bitter and tart. Medium bodied with fizzy carbonation. It's OK but not great.

Bottle shared at Maakun’s. Clear orange with white ring head. Sweet and barnyard funky. Juicy funky sweet cider with quite some dry old rubberband notes and tannins. Sweet and bitter. Medium body and soft carbonation. --- Beer merged from original tick of L'Inimitable on 10 Jan 2020 at 00:50 - Score: 7. Original review text: Clear orange with white ring head. Bottle shared. Clear dark golden to light amber. Dry funk, sweaty horse, dry apple, dry earthy apple peel, leather, light flowery, dirty dishwasher water, rubbery, dry dead leaves. Over light sweet, quite light sour and bitter. Over light bodied, medium dry. Quite some character for a commercial cider. OK.

Bottle shared at home, bought in an agricultural shop in South end of Bretagne. Sweet and sour rich apple aroma. Bit toothwrecking lollipop sweet/tart but quite nice to drink. --- Beer merged from original tick of La Sulfureuse (Rosé) on 10 Oct 2019 at 20:50 - Score: 6. Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Clear pink with no head. Light sweet and tart apple, soft funk and mineral, a bit of pear, light crisp fruit sorbet ice. Medium sweet, under medium tart. Medium bodied with no carbonation and almost medium dry finish. Quite OK, but would benefit from some carbonation.

330ml bottle from Scrattings. Pours clear gold. Aroma is fairly sweet, keeved, not particularly jumping out as a perry. Taste is clean, light, fruity, stewed fruit, soft pear, not especially perry-like, some stickiness. Fairly simplistic but not bad overall.

Many thanks for this Normand Cider to Jacek Wigier (wineofdreams@gmail.com). Nalane do szampanskiego kieliszka deusa. Jasna zolto-jajeczna barwa, poczatkowo fajnie rosnaca piana, musujace, mineralne i smaczne, wytrawny profil, gruszki w tle,l nieco rewna mokrego czy kartonu tez bylo, fajne, ale slaba marketingowo butelka i etykieta.

330ml bottle from Pilango online. Bright orangey gold colour, short-lived fizzy white foam head and aroma of apple with hints of funk & caramel. Taste is sweet apple, toffee, sugary with some wood-like notes and funk & caramel hints. Oily, medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, medium-sweet finish. OK, abit sweet

At a tasting, thanks, small bubbly fizzy head, aroma of apples with some funk coming through, same traits in flavor with hints minerals and vinegar, quite sweet but with a medium almost piercing sourness and the funk getting stronger. Nice and suprising.
