Sample at Beer13. Very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of berries, malt , spices, hints of caramel and some roasty notes. Medium sweet with a decent berry flavour and some acidity. Well balanced and very nice! (2013-04-19)

Purchased in Paris, October 2011. Dark brown and the beer started to slowly bubble up from the bottle after opening. Well carbonated. Aroma has yeast and an earthy, moldy quality that another described as cheese. Dry malt flavor with more of the earthy quality and light spice. I was surprised by the low scores for this beer. It is not very exciting but what is there is good.

Diminishing dark cream-brown head over fully opaque deep brown-beer. Sweet molasses & chocolate nose, dark meat&mushroom sauce. Later lighter impression with dark green leaves, discreet. Bitter, dry flavour with lots of sweeter malts and again molasses in the background. Quite roasted, yet mild for such a stout, sorry, smout. Medium bodied, quite slick if short of viscous. Feels quite carbonated. All in all, easily drinkable in its kind - its strength just doesn’t show.

Bottle shared with Bruce and Colin at Kerelshof, Cassel. Pours murky, dark brown with a tight, creamy tan head. Dark malt nose with nips of Belgian yeast. Big sweet flavor with some rich and sugary chocolate, a bit of meat, dark fruits, burnt candi sugar. Full bodied, creamy, with fine carbonation. Moderate warmth to finish with further dark malt character, very light roast, some chocolate, suggestions of burnt rubber, low bitterness. Very decent beer.

Bottle at the Kerelshoff II split with Leighton and Bruce, 22/03/13. Mid black with a thick tan head that retains well. Nose carries dark fruit notes, toffee, sugars, spice. Taste comprises dark fruits, plummy tones, toffee, dates, rich berry fruit, yeasty notes and a touch peppery. Full end of medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry in the finish which carries a touch of booze. Adequate stuff.

Opening results in a geyser of white foam, a desk full of beer and papers floating, slowly saturating, as well as in an explosion of herbal, green aromas, and finally in a meagre twenty cl of faintly veiled corn-yelliow beer interspeckled with miriad tiny UFO’s. Oh, and a bit of foam.... Aromatic hops in evidence, faintly medicinal, dried herbs, touch of corn syrup and impressions of juniper branch, cypress and bog myrtle. Medicinal-hoppy, flavourwise. Bitter, but a tad indifferent. Greenmalt retronasal, more herbal notes. Spritzy... light to medium bodied. Deserving try, certainly too modest for an IPA. And guys... noaste kiê ’a bitje minder gazze, èh?

Bottle 750ml.Clear medium yellow orange colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, moderate to heay yeasty, riped fruit, spicy fruity. Flavour is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, riped fruit, spicy fruity, dry. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20130216]

Slight gushing to huge beige head, dwindling over clear chestnut beer. Bit nutty, but also dusty, yeasty. Sweetish-nutty, bready; warming caramel. Sweet, yet dry enough; feels well-carbonated as -attenuated. Quite alike to a none too strong German dark Bock. Finish has a slight, tantalizing lactic-sourish flavour. Medium bodied, slick, if a tad watery. Light; not bad,just neither exciting.

Bruce’s Birthday Bash at the Craft Clerkenwell. Thanks to Ian for this one. Hazy gold beer, good pale cream coloured head. Light airy palate, dry. Mild carbonation. Bitterish grapefruit. Mild bubblegum ester, stronger banana. Minerally finish, bitter aftertaste. A bit weird.
