Jennings (Marston's)
Regional Brewery
in Cockermouth,
Cumbria,
England 🏴
Owned by
Carlsberg Britvic
Established in 2005
Closed in 2022
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

25/7/2020. Bottle shared with the SHIG at our second Cumbrian bottle share. Pours clear bright golden amber with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of old hops, fruit, grain and metal. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, average carbonation. Bit of overripe banana came through. Only fair.

More a golden ale than a bitter, pours a deep gold with a foamy off-white head, and a sweet biscuit malt aroma. Tastes sweet and malty, with fruity notes and a hint of dry bitterness in the finish

0.5 bottle. Nice deep golden color, head is also cheeky. Slightly medicinal, hopy, basically green grassy scent. Great hops. Outstandingly fine beer despite its low alcohol content. I’ve been drinking many times before and I always will if I can. It’s tremendous the way hops taste tasted inside the mouth everywhere ...

Szép mély arany szín, habja is pofás. Kicsit gyógyszeres, komlós, alapvetően zöld füves illat. Remek komlózás. Kiemelkedően finom sör a az alacsony alkohol fok ellenére. Sokszor ittam már, és ha lehet mindig is fogok. Óriási ahogy a komló ízek erződnek a szájon belül mindenhol...

Bottle via Lidl, SK. Seems a bit oxidized, malt coming forward with a dull sherry-like quality. Moderate body, medium carbonation. Not much else in terms of character, hops took a vacation, only med-light dull bitterness, slightly metallic. Drinkable, that is about all.

Bottle. A nice golden colour with a white head dissipating quickly leaving some lacing. Aroma is bland, I get some malt but mostly cardboard. Taste is a little better with malt, hops and some floral notes on occasions and a slightly dry bitterness. Still a little watery. It goes down easily and is good on the palate. Its just a bit boring

Flasa z Lidlu. Vona slaba mierne chmelova. Medova farba. Chut trochu horkasta, vodoma slaba nezaujimava.

Bottle from some local supermarket (but not Booths !) Sweet lemony hops in the nose of this one. Pours a clear golden yellow with a dense white head that lingers (for a while). In the mouth there is a powerful punch of citrus hops, along with straw, malt and a hint of grapefruit. The bitterness lingers at the finish. Surprisingly strong tasting for the strength.

Bottle from Booths Supermarket, Media City. Slightly hazy golden with head. Has a dominant malty-sweet bitterness with a crispness to it, and and underlying citrus flavour. This has a similar textured taste to several other Jennings brews with its water feeling quite clean in the palate.

Bottle on 10th April 2020 from local small grocery. Pours clear amber with shallow foam decaying quickly to zero. Tangy fruits and caramel malts in aroma. Same balance in-mouth followed by sweet berry fruits in a tangy finish. A zingy mouthfeel and plenty of body.
