Backlog May 2009. Slightly hazy golden body under a small white head. Mild fruity aroma. Taste is light malt, hint of fruit, some acidity. Medium body same aftertaste. Infected but not all bad actually.

2008 bottle from thewolf. Orange blonde color, cloudy. Malty aroma with hints of flowers and milk. Yeasty nutty bitter flavor. Medium bodied. Hints of citrus and milk. Tasty, but certainly not perfect.

Pasteurized imperial stout with light beige, espresso-like, dense head and near to black colour. Aroma of bitter chocolate, coffee beans, orange peal, banana, black pepper, dates, nutmeg, coffee liqueur. Deep malty taste, bit of iron, oily and granular mouthfeel as typical for a good imperial, chocolatey but not very sweet, creamy, light and relatively brief hop bitterness in the tail along with roasted bitterness but in a gentle, not too pungent way. Not the most complex imperial stout I’ve had but if you are into this style, nearly anything goes and this was after all very enjoyable. A good introduction to the style, perhaps?

I have been scrolling through old ratings now that I have the time and found that I actually had this beer - and took brief tasting notes - at the Vilvordia Bierproeffestival of 2009, strange that I apparently forgot to include it in my archives, but nice to find that I can still add it to my record eleven years later... From one of the first generation Danish craft brewers, an American style barleywine, served from a 50 cl bottle. Pale yellowish beige, stable, mousy head on a deep amber-bronze coloured beer. Aroma of caramel, congac, pear candy, pineapple, biscuit. Sweet main flavour with clean fruity notes, full, vinous and bit creamy body, very malt-forward for an American style beer (i.e. lacking a bit in American hoppiness), but with a toasty-bitterish, even very lightly coffeeish maltiness to it, accentuated by quite astringent, heating alcohol. A tad crude, perhaps, but certainly an intensely malty beer, with unexpected toasted malt bitter aspect - something I would probably appreciate more today than I did back in 2009, but I have to follow the rating I made at the time, of course...

500 ml bottle sampled in 2008. Unclear reddish brown body with a small beige head. Aroma feels like sweet malt, dry fruit and there is some alcohol. Flavor is quite smooth sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit moderate bitterness and warming alcohol. Fine body and good aftertaste. I see from previous ratings that there is really mixed opinion on this one, it actually seems like the quality might vary a lot from bottle to bottle. Mine where rather nice and enjoyable.

0.5l bottle courtesy of yngwie and my girlfriend as a gift on my birthday a couple of years ago. Its a deep dark brown near black one, not to much of a head on this but what's here is dark brown and light sidesticking. A powerful lovely aroma with notes of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, tons of vanilla and confect chocolate, espresso and buzzy honey. A lovely aroma. The carbonation level is soft and really prickling carbonation with a thick chewy powerful mouthfeel. In the taste I get loads of chocolate, honey, vanilla before it ends really drymouthing. Almost a bit to dry - wood dry? - for a beer of this caliber. Lots of prickling alcohol in the aftertaste. A great beer! Big thanks! 29.03.2013

Opaque black beer, residual tan head. Malt, chocolate and coffee nose. Softish palate, semi dry. Rich coffee and chocolate - neither dominant. Dark malt and licorice. Trace of brandy and fruits. Dry finish with a mild licorice aftertaste. Slightly gum numbing but otherwise hides the alcohol well. Nice beer but the base beer is better.
