This is their best beer under their own brand. Pale and cloudy, it has an appetizing appearance. Beyond that, it’s fairly dry, with good complexity and the clearest hop character of their three pale ales.

Hazy blonde. Light, slightly fruity and a little bit of hop. Touch of yeastiness. The balance is ok, but the character seems timid. Of course, there isn’t much brewing on South Africa’s east coast.

Amber-brown colour. No head. The taste is mild, lightly malty with a slight hop bitterness. Decent English-type of beer.

Nice head with good duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are rich, but artificial mango, citrus, malt and syrup.

Crystal clear deep orange tinted copper coloured body with a perfect, three centimetre tall tan head - looks great. Aroma of bright yeast, malt, citrus, light grassy hops and a bunch of herbal notes. Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and grassy hops up front with a nice malt backbone and a citrus, yet yeastie finish. Aftertaste is subdued with most of the flavours showing citrus and hoppiness, but a subtle sweetness then bitterness finishes it off. Overall, not an amazing pale (I would also clarify this one as an APA), but one of the better beers I’ve sampled IN or brought back home from South Africa. I sampled this (i’ve only seen these in ZA) stubby, but large 550 mL bottle purchased from Simon’s Town Bottle Shop in Simon’s Town, Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa on 31-December-2011 for ZAR22,90 brought back to the opposite side of the world and sampled at home in Washington on 14-June-2012 a few days before leaving again for South Africa.

[Bottle at the Bootlegger, High Wycombe] Murky brown-bronze, negligible head. Rather thin mouthfeel. A low-grade chocolate maltiness sits uneasily with herbs, pine, lime and rather a lot of urine. Oddly reminiscent of one of those ghastly health drinks with weird stuff in. An unusual beer, but not in a good way at all. c8
