About
Founded in 1980 by Mike and Carola Brown, Ballards Brewery was a pioneering West Sussex microbrewery. Starting in a Trotton cow shed, it moved to an Elsted pub before settling at Nyewood in 1988. Famous for real ales, the brewery operated for 38 years until closing upon retirement in 2018.

Since closure some beers were brewed at the Greyhound Brewery, who bought the recipe and brand rights..

3rd LCRBM. Sweet apples, almost like calvados in the aroma. Sweet and sour flavor with malt, raisin and flowery hops. Red berries. Rather alcoholic, still a nice beer.

Level 6 Bottleshare. Thanks to LKS. For this 1993 beer. Almost clear dark brown beer, a few tan bubbles. Smooth palate, not a lot of carbonation. Smooth dark malts. Soft dark chocolate. Soft sherry. Ripe fruits. Smooth finish. Marvellously aged. Could drink all night.

Bottle shared in London - purchased locally, recently. Pours clear brown with a bubbly head. Well oxidised, to be sure, with notes of dried caramel, brown bread, leathery fruits. Medium bodied, oily, with soft carbonation. More toasted malts in the finish, chewy fruits, brown sugar, apparent oxidation. Has aged fairly OK. Not too bad overall.
