We are an independent craft producer of cask and bottle-conditioned beers. Brewing behind the legendary & historic pub, The Talbot at Knightwick in Worcestershire.
The brewery was first opened in 1997 by the Clift family. Annie and Wiz Clift ran The Talbot at Knightwick, Worcestershire while their brother Philip ran the family farm at Lulsley Court nearby. The Clifts had been growing hops since the 19th century and a logical progression of the farm and pub businesses was to brew beer from their own hops to sell in their own pub. In August 1997 the brewery equipment was installed behind the pub and in September 1997 Chris Gooch joined as brewer.

Bottle from Tanners Wines, Hereford. Deep brown and slightly hazy, with a big and rocky off-white head. Aroma of stoned fruits with a yeasty edge. Flavour had some sweetish fruit, a hint of chocolate and a decent bitter finish. Unusual and ok.

Bottle from the Hop Pocket, Bishops Frome, Herefordshire, 11.09.10 consumed 15.09.10 Pours murky brown head disappeared sharply. Nice fruitiness on nose, touch of yeastiness, good maltiness. The flavour is really good there is a dark chocolate rush but its very bitter cocoa orientated, challenging and hard but good, this is backed up by a solid fruity tang. Really likeable, not in the least bit sweet, sticky (as suggested in description) or cloying. A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle from The Hop Pocket, Bishops Frome, Herefordshire, 11.09.10 consumed later that day. Pours dark gold, clear as a bell with a slim white head. Some hoppiness on the nose also a touch floral. This turned out to be distincty average , light chewiness, some hops, bit thin and the flavour departed quite swiftly. The bitterness is ok, it’s fine enough. A7 A5 T6 P3 Ov12 3.3

Bottled. Total gusher. Amber colour, big off-white head. Aroma is mild acidic wood, some mild fruity and floral notes as well as some mild caramelly and cardboardy notes. Flavour is acidic wood, some dry earthyness as well as some mild fruity and floral notes.

Cask (gravity) @ GBBF 09, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear medium yellow orange color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, grain, toasted, apple notes, light hoppy, citrus. Flavor is light moderate sweet and light light bitter with a average duration. Body is light medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is flat to soft. [20090806]

Cask conditioned handpull at The Plough, Worcester. Gold, thin white head. Another golden ale, some biscuit. Some vague hop. It’s ok, but nothing interesting.

Bottle 50cl.Clear medium amber color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, fully diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, oxidide malt, earth, light raisin and plum, light notes of paper. Flavor is moderate sweet and light moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20090802]

Cask@GBBF 2009. Golden color, not much head. Light fruity-hoppy aroma. Some apricot fruityness and hops. Oily mouthfeel. Kind of empty feeling in this beer.
