Description
Pelican Brewing Company was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world. Today we’ve taken our breweries and our values to other Oregon coastal towns where we wake up each day in a place that reminds us that amazing is possible. Cheers fellow fanatics. This is as good as it gets.

12 oz. can, pours a pale golden with a medium white head. Aroma has some earthy hops, light pine, some oil resins, and big bready malt. Flavour is massively bitter, with intense piney hops, big grapefruit zest, citrus peel, and a surprisingly tempered dry malt to back that just provides structure for the onslaught of hops. An onslaught of bittering hops, finishing with pine and grapefruit. Awesome extreme hop bomb only for hopheads.

Can from West Sacramento Grocery Outlet. Poor gold with a monstrous white head that slowly laced. Aroma of Persian melon and passionfruit. Medium body. Flavor is very tropical, somewhat juicy, and lightly malty sweet. Enough bitter to balance. It’s not a West Coast IPA in my humble opinion, but it’s really pleasing flavor. Good stuff.

A Brewver Top 50 for the style. Jet black pour. Rocky tan head. Spotty lacing. Mild roasted malt aroma hints at coffee and chocolate. Flavor mirrors nose. Wonderful creamy mouthfeel. Some bitterness on backend. Just plain delicious.

Can from the local Grocery Outlet. Pours light, slightly translucent gold with a large white head that did some lacing. Aroma is floral with light bread background. Med body. Fairly dry and definitely bitter. Very light breadiness with some mixed floral and green melon. Refreshing.

Bottle.
A- Dark reddish brown color, dark liquid, minimal head.
A- Malt, brown sugar, mild oak,.
F- Bitter, malt, burnt caramel, licorice, anise, medicinal, subtle booze.
T- Full body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bitter finish.
O- Felt this was much more American style than English. Rather bitter and not a lot of sweetness. 2022 vintage drank with 3 years of age. Honestly, for the price and hype, this was highly overrated at least for my preferences. I respect why people like it but I was sorely disappointed. 4 oz would have been enough let alone a full 17oz bottle. A want list beer for me that did not live up.

This rating is from my 25th different Oregon brewery. 500 ml bottle from Tavour. 2023 vintage. Pours black as ink and is topped by a luxurious, pillowy tan head. Aromas of sweet, roasted dark malt, espresso, oak and whiskey. Flavor upfront is bittersweet dark chocolate, espresso, whiskey, oak and crushed black pepper. Rich and luxurious. Light carbonation. Long, roasty finish.

Can from local Grocery Outlet. Pours coppery gold with a huge foamy white head. Aroma has pine and orange. Med body or better. Flavor is pine/resin/citrus and something spicy prickly. Malty but not very sweet. Enough bitterness to overcome the maltiness. Strong and excellent flavor.
