Description
Defying the odds isn’t just what we do, it’s a part of our DNA. We were founded by a woman in 1867. Lived through two wars. Survived a fire. Overcame the Halifax Explosion. Competed as an independent company against breweries 100 times our size. We haven’t just survived - we’ve thrived. And while others back down, we outlast. Moosehead Breweries Limited is the last major brewery in Canada still owned by Canadians. The brewery is located in Saint John, New Brunswick and operates with values that have been safely guarded by the same family for 148 years. Despite obstacles – devastating fires, Prohibition, the Great Depression, two world wars, obstructive trade barriers, and bruising competition from breweries 100 times its size – Moosehead is one of the most durable and long lasting companies in Canada. Ultimately it has been the Oland family’s passion for beer that has enabled them to be successful over the long term. With their product on beer shelves from the Maritimes to B.C., and its flagship Moosehead Lager shipped to approximately 350 distributors in the U.S.; Moosehead has become an iconic mainstay in North America’s beer industry

Cloudy pale blond colour. Gentle aroma of fruit, light tartness, sweet citrus. Lean body, very low sugar level, mild undefined fruit character (sweet orange and sweet orange peel?), low bitterness hence a bit short in the finish.
Not bad.

473ml can shared with my wife. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a large, foamy, short lived, off-white head that laces. Sweet aroma of grainy pale malt, lemon, grapefruit and sugar. Sweet flavour of grainy pale malt, grape, lemon, grapefruit and sugar with a dry finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Refreshing. Good for the style, I guess.

Can at the Maple Leaf, Covent Garden (Palace v The weed) - pours almost clear gold with a white head and lacing. A suggestion of vague citrus fruit, sweet malty base, light to medium body, subdued hoppy bitter close. Basic stuff.

Bottle, courtesy of JFK10000 and the crew. Drank straight from the bottle since I was at the airport. Bit malty and very sweet. Stinks a bit. Sweet malty water.

Can that pours a deep copper colour with creamy beige head, very good retention and full sticky lacing. The nose is quite sweet over some grainy cereal malts, toasty ones and molasses. The taste is pretty rich as well, but at least it has some decent hops in the finish to help things not be too sweet. A bit like apples and molasses, coffee notes. Still, not one to go back to as missing finest.

This stout poured a deep brown colour with a big, creamy, tan coloured head. Decent lacing. Scents include caramel, dark toast and a little coffee. First swig was better than expected. Flavours of caramel, a little Melloid cough candy, coffee and burnt toast. Finish had a flavour of molasses and coffee lingering.
