The most popular standard lager in Canada made by a fully Canadian-owned brewery. Green bottle, but apparently it has been stored in the dark properly, as I get no ’skunkiness’ from it at all, in spite of my expectations. Thinnish and quickly dissipating, off-white head only retaining more or less on the edges; cristal clear pale yellow golden colour with medium fizz. Aroma is weak, but cannot hide that typical cooked smell of pasteurization (though admittedly only faintly so), apart from some weird hints of burnt, sulfuric vegetables (Brussels sprouts somewhere), roasted corn, grass, straw, soggy cereals and vague iron - rather neutral, in all, as can be expected from the style, but nothing which truly puts me off. Neutral onset, bit minerally, some sourish grains but still fairly ’fresh’ and not too ’sweaty’, sweet corn but again restrainedly so, medium carbo, cereal sweetishness increasing a bit in the middle, thinnish mouthfeel but rounded and not overly metallic. The grain and corn sweetishness along with the mineral water quality from the onset are simply continued in the end, with no real finish worth mentioning; I have been trying hard to detect hop bitterness even in its most rudimentary form, but failed to do so, the result of which is that this lager fades away into oblivion as soon as you’ve swallowed it, adding nothing to the simple structure which is easily dissected from the very first sip. Boring and extremely bland, very neutral and unexciting as any mass produced standard lager, but I cannot find anything truly wrong with it. It’s just... well, boring.
