Description
Founder of Dot Brew, Shane Kelly, has made a name for both himself and his brand over the last few years through a keen passion and love for experimentation when it comes to his brews, most notably in the form of barrel ageing and hybrid styles. The Dublin based brewer has carved out quite a niche, developing a unique style and approach which has helped put Dot Brew at the forefront of the Irish Craft Beer scene. While the beers are brewed in various microbreweries in and around Dublin, they are then brought home to Dolphin’s Barn. The site is home to about 50 barrels in a small warehouse which Kelly refers to as his ‘spice rack’, with casks ranging from French oak, Mexican tequila and American bourbon, to name but a few.

Can at home, from an online peddler whom I can't recall, 12/01/24. Hazed orange with an off white cap that dissipates to a swirl. Nose is orange zest, grass, light perfume, melon, citric tinged straw. Taste comprises tangerine, grass, melon, grass, light maple bill, mixed citric peel. Medium to lighter body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow hop trace. Solid for an AF affair.

Bottle. Color: Lightly hazy copper, no head. Aroma: Sweetish, peaty, hints of almond. Taste: Boozy. No carbonation. Full body. Mix of sweetish and fruity Oloroso and hints of Rum, peat, some raisins, oak wood, tannins, almond notes. Malty. Warming mouthfeel. Medium sweet, light to moderate bitterness. Nice slow sipper. Unusual barrels, I think I've never had peat and Oloroso before but it works out very well for me. Third one and best of this serie for me until now.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, London. A black coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Roasty, malty, chocolate, dark fruit taste/aroma. This stout was slightly tart. It's fine but I expected a really good stout and it certainly fell short.

Can. Color: Lightly hazy golden, white head. Aroma: Fruity, herbal, lightly tart. Taste: Light tart, some lime and white grape notes, bit herbal / spicy, salty(?) and grapefruit hints. Very light bitterness. Just under medium body, average carbonation. Dry-ish finish. Bit thin. Refreshing. Unusual. Not exactly a beer feeling, more like an ok Radler. Matching perfectly with spicy Asian food, I presumey.

Just below medium body, low carbonation. Moderate to over moderate sweet. Floral and hoppy, light bitter and bit vinuous, finish. Interesting combination of flavors.

Yellow, slightly hazy pour with almost no head. Aromas of citrus and other fruits. Taste is similar whith a hint of whiskey and white wine. Bought at the distillery and have to admit that I expected a bit more, at least some more whiskey notes. Wasn't that cheap either.
