Description
Hardywood officially began its mission to brew with purpose in late 2011 as one of only two craft breweries in the city of Richmond. Our original brewhouse and taproom was a vacant warehouse discovered in a long-forgotten neighborhood known nearly a century prior as Richmond’s German Brewing District. Hardywood has been drawing new life to this forgotten area one draft pour at a time. We now operate a 20-barrel brewhouse and taproom in the original location, as well as a 60-barrel brewhouse and destination brewery in the West Creek area of Richmond, right on the border of Goochland County.
Today, Hardywood continues to develop and deliver on its mission with a sharp focus on brewing quality, sourcing local, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and giving back.

Santa knew! Hardywood Kentucky Christmas Morning BBA Christmas Coffee Imperial Stout 11.6% Inky black with a tan head. On cracking open the bottle there was a huge bourbon aroma. After a bit you get softly sweet stout with cinnamon aromas. The taste is a bit ascerbic and tart like a fruity coffee with soft spices in the finish. Good but not as stellar as the regular version. This tartness may be a result of the aging or it being a touch old, the body seems to have gotten thinner as well. Nice example of aging changes (had this last summer). I’m gonna get the regular Christmas Morning for next year if I can, it’s a tradition I’m trying to start. Enjoyed in 2022

pitch black color. Amazing nose of bourbon, nutmegs, cloves. Amazing depth of bourbon, oak, chocolate vanilla, tons of spice. Alcohol well hidden. Super drinkable. Perfect Christmas time beer. Meets my expectations.

pitch black color. No head. Beautiful nose of maple syrup, ginger, pancakes and honey. Medium carbonation tons of maple and ginger in the nose. The palate isn’t quit there. Could be better with lower carbonation. Pancakes and maple linger. I like this, but I don’t love this. The nose is amazing though

Pint can picked up today at the brewery - fizzy, headless pour - dry and crisp lager, with floral noble hops, moderately rich crusty bread maltiness, lightly spicy hops on the tail end - very clean, but the finish is a little watery.

Can and friend’s house in Richmond - extremely peachy, and not very tripel-like - tastes like a strong peach wheat - light pepper, light bitterness - light dustiness - okay.

Ever so slightly hazy golden and light copper coloured body with a very nice two to three centimetre tall tan head that stays afloat nicely above the ten per cent opacity and the zillions of very small bubbles rising from the sides and bottom of the glass. Aroma of crisp grassy and herbal notes with a light dose of malt noticeable and then a bunch of canned pineapple scents with additional pineapple candy sweetness here in the nose - strong! Medium-bodied; Very crisp and grassy notes show at first with a big dryness that is tempered shortly thereafter by canned pineapple flavours that contribute to the sweetness and the tropically notes here, with a slight bitterness at the end. Aftertaste is dry and sweet at the same time with a soft hop bite throughout and a floral finish along with the canned and candy pineapple flavours that are quite strong here as well. Overall, a nice beer with a dry, older school profile from the hops AND malt, but the pineapple, while not fresh tasting was still pretty nice, added to the complexity and worked well here. Nice to sample and a solid older school IPA throughout. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Newport News, Virginia on 20-November-2022 for US$3,99, canned on 08-April-2022 and sampled at my house here in Washington on 17-February-2023.
