Description

Schade!

Weicher, alkoholisch herber Beginn. Mittellanger Abgang. 9/10/10/10/8/10

This was my Day 7 beer from my Mr Hop advent calendar, picked up from the webshop, Vernray, Netherlands. Had this Wednesday 10th December 2025 listening to Huw Stephens on 6Music and still thinking about cooking Gorgonzola and Walnuts with Penne Pasta. I pick up a bit of vanilla, it's got a nice spicy edge to it. Looks wise it's mid hazy with a white head, it's filmy after dropping quickly. Nice mouthfeel, there is a little buzz, a little slow build of bitterness. This is quite good, however the can art looks horribly AI. Score 6.9

Can at home, darker amber almost brown beer, small head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, malt, alcohol, fruit. Taste is the same, bitter, sweet, caramel, malt, fruit. Alcohol is decently hidden for 14+ abv... quite nice.

330ml can. Cloudy, yellow-ish, golden colour with small to average, frothy, moderately lasting and lacing, white head. Wheaty malty and spicy aroma, hints of ginger. Taste is mildly spicy and wheaty malty with some residual sweetness, hints of ginger.
Minimally creamy, watery texture, smooth and soft palate, medium to fine, dense, mildly prickly carbonation.
Good body, mild, balanced, a bit simple and monotonous - OK.

24/IV/25 - 33cl can from Mr. Hop (webshop) @ Peter’s 50th birthday party, Cabane Banane (Gent), BB: VIII/2026 (could be 2027 as well, the marking on the side of the label is right in between), Batch: B2024060 (2025-392) Thanks to Peter for sharing today’s beers!

Clear gold blond beer, creamy dense off-white head, pretty stable. Aroma: very herbal, spicy, some gale, yeasty, a bit sugary impression, some ripe banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: yuck, dirty, very soapy, chemical, unpleasant. Aftertaste: sweet, spicy, herbal, gale, sugary, banana. Not a big fan of all that gale…

Can from Bierboetiek De Zythotheek, Valkenburg. Sweet malty aroma with caramel, toffee, alcohol, sugary notes, marzipan. Not really picking up the tonka, but I find tonka overappreciated so... Sweet flavour, boozy but still drinks below its hefty abv.
