Bomber - golden pour with a slight haze - quite a lively pour, with a nicely sustained, thick ring of foam - smoke hits the nose first - the beechwood smoke is most evident, and man does it smell nice - this is balanced nicely by a moderate honey sweetness from the malt, and is complimented well by floral and grassy notes from the hops - moderate carbonation - medium body - clean and crisp, with a moderate sweetness and mildly herbal and floral hops (which eventually take on a peppery character in the finish - even doses and beechwood and oak campfire smokiness arrive late and linger in the finish - about as much smoke as you would want in a lighter rauchbier - not too intense, but quite present without covering up the qualities of the lager itself - very well done - I’m looking forward to the others in this series.
