About
Creative brewing is all about not sticking to the same old formula. Since 2008 we have experimented with different combinations of hops and ingredients to find both traditional and excitingly new tasting ales. We brew it with the care and attention we believe it deserves. Finest English malt is the base for all Backyard Brewhouse beers but it does not stop there. Combinations with hops such as New Age American, Old English, Slovenian and New Zealand as well as one or two other secret ingredients have helped make all our beers popular and distinctive. We are committed to creating new and interesting beers to sit alongside our range of core and regular products.

Handpull cask from the Kings Head, Leicester. Golden, clear with a foamy white head. Apple, clementine and a touch of pine in the aroma. Taste, not so keen. Bittersweet, medicinal and more than a touch soapy in the finish. Astringent aftertaste. Full body for cask. Not a bad beer by any standards, but I wished it finished as well as it started.

Cask at the Cosy Club, Birmingham. Pours light orange gold with a small head. Aroma is bready sulphur. Taste is bready with peach notes. Simple and sessionable.

Cask at the Pump House, Solihull. Poured a clear copper colour with a thin white head and lots of clingy lace. The aroma is yeast, raspberry citrus. The flavour is moderate to light sour with a crisp, fresh, yeast, citrus fruit, dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

GBBF Day 1. Cask. Clear gold beer, bubbly white head. Palate is smooth and dry, modest fine carbonation. Dry malts, some sweetness. Cloves and cinnamon dominate, a little fruity citrus underneath, Little orange peel. Light dry finish. Drinkable for a spiced beer, still couldn’t drink much though!

Cask at GBBF’17, day one, 08/08/17. Clear golden blonde with a moderate off white head. Nose is ginger, toasted grains, light spice, lemon rind. Taste comprises herbal notes, light spice, ginger bread, grass. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Ok for style.

Cask at the Great British Beer Festival 2017. Pours pale gold with a lasting bubbly white head. Aroma is dominated by stem ginger. Moderate sweetness and light bitterness. Light body, slight oily and watery texture, soft carbonation. As ginger infused beers go, this is one of the better ones.
