Bottle thanks to Phil and Russell. Pours black with no head. The aroma is strong maple syrup, wood, roast, bourbon, dark chocolate. Thick body, chewy, dark chocolate, wood, strong bourbon, maple, smoke finish, really enjoyed this.

Bottle shared at Ratebeer awards show. 30/01/2016. .Many thanks! A viscous black / caramel coloured pour with mid tan head. Aroma is toffee, salted caramel, smooth bourbon whiskey, oak and spices, , pine. Flavour is composed of smooth cakey malts, toffee, salted caramel, vanilla, dried fruits. Nutmeg and cinnamon in the finish. Palate is full bodied, oily and sweet. Lingering woody tannin. Good stuff.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is rich with a lot of milk chocolate and some lighter dark chocolate. Light roast notes with hints of bourbon and brandy. Some light dark fruit notes and hints of oak. Pours black with a medium large, thick, creamy, mocha head that shows really nice retention as it slowly recedes to a thin ring that lasts on the edges. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is rather sweet with lots of milk chocolate. Some lighter dark chocolate and roast notes. Some light dark fruit notes with down raisin and prune. Some toffee and caramel notes. Light brandy and bourbon flavors with a light oak note. Lactose note is pretty light which is nice. Light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is fairly full bodied, silky and creamy with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice cream stout and I don’t really like these lactose stouts. Nice chocolate notes with good barrel characteristics.

750 ml bottle. Black beer with a thick light brown head leaving some lacing. The aroma is full of chocolate. It leans toward the milk chocolate end of the spectrum but it’s a nice full flavor with darker notes, as well. Big caramel base underneath, though it doesn’t overshadow the chocolate. The barrel is well integrated and adds a pleasant and fairly strong vanilla note. Light fruitiness. Some sweet cherry and very mild grape. A little bit of cola. Very little booziness. Just a hint of oak. The taste is rich and very creamy. While strong, the creaminess doesn’t push the beer into pure lactose territory. I think the barrel helps with that, as the finish is cleaned up with dark chocolate, oak and a more identifiable spirit flavor - you get some definite brandy flavor to go with the bourbon sweetness. Overall, fairly sweet, though not syrupy as expected. Luxurious, soft mouthfeel. Fairly thick but more soft than pure brownie batter. Big brown sugar, toffee, caramel. Really nice stuff.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly berry forward with quite a bit of blueberry character as well as some lighter blackberry notes. Not very jammy with some nice tannins and skin notes. Light white wine notes with hints of oak. Light citrus notes in the acidity. Pours a hazy, reddish purple with a small, thin, slightly pink head that disappears to the edges immediately. No lacing or legs. Flavor has a medium light acidity with some light sweetness. Moderately strong berry notes with blueberry being more prevalent than blackberry. It doesn’t come across as jammy though with quite a bit of tannins and skin notes. Moderate white wine notes with oak and grape tannins. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. The berry notes work well with the wine character and prevent the beer from coming across as too jammy and one dimensional. Acidity is balanced and not too sharp.

Poured from a 375 ml bottle. Aroma is very chocolate forward with fairly strong milk chocolate undertones. Some light roast notes. Medium light apple brandy notes with some faint oak notes. Pours jet black with a small, thick, mocha head that recedes slowly to the edges where a small film lingers for quite a bit. No lacing and fairly long legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with a lot of lactose and chocolate notes. Hints of roast with some light oak notes. Medium light apple brandy notes that become more pronounced as it warms. Mouthfeel is full bodied and moderately creamy with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice imperial milk stout, but the mouthfeel could be a bit fuller. The calvados character is also very light and somewhat overpowered by the lactose. More calvados and alcohol notes as it warms.

750 ml bottle. The beer is a nice dull yellowish gold color. Fairly cloudy. Medium white head, a little fizzy maybe. Great tropical fruit hop forward aroma. Some nice vinous barrel action. Big pineapple, kiwi, mango meets white wine and oak. Light lacto character. Taste is moderately to mildly sour. More barrel comes out, particularly oak. It has a kinda messy lacto note to it. Not bad, just kinda odd. Light feel. A little bit of body to it. Very light pucker. I really love the aroma on this beer - wonderful dry hopped sour and barrel flavors - but the taste doesn’t live up to it.

750 ml bottle. The beer is dark brown with shades of mahogany. Smallish head, light tan color. Fades pretty quickly. Lots of spice, sweetness and barrel in the aroma. Big cardamom and clove but you can find the whole mishmash list of ingredients. Nothing really pulls it together, though. Pretty strong rye barrel spiciness. Big caramel backbone. Fairly sweet but not terribly over sweet for the style and strength. Tons of spice in the taste, as well. Fairly woody, particularly in the finish which gives a mild hit of bitterness. Very little cherry flavor. Medium body, a bit syrupy. It’s pretty much a spice mess. Way too much going on with no focus. I just don’t get this one. It doesn’t really taste like an Old Fashioned, and the spicing is just terribly unbalanced.
