Description
Hangar 24 began its craft brewing exploration with a true passion for good beer, the absolute love of flying and the pure enjoyment of being around great friends. My buddies and I used to meet at hangar No. 24 at the Redlands Municipal Airport, after an afternoon of flying, to trade stories, talk aviation, play music and share a few cold ones that were recently home brewed. These days, the location of where the beers are brewed has changed, but the quality time spent enjoying a delicious, handcrafted beer and conversation with friends is the same as ever. I personally want to invite you to join the adventure. Cheers! Ben Cook.

Poured form a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is super spice forward with lots of cardamom and cloves. Lighter juniper, cinnamon and orange notes. Some light bourbon and rye notes with hints of oak. Light toasted bread and cracker malt notes. Light cherry and raisin notes. Pours brown with a medium thick, tan head that recedes slowly to the edges where it lingers. Light lacing and moderate legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with some light toasted bread, biscuit and caramel notes. Moderately strong spice notes with clove and cardamom being most prevalent followed by juniper and cinnamon. Light orange notes. Light rye and bourbon notes with hints of oak. light alcohol spice. Moderately strong bitterness and a bit astringent. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, this beer is a disgusting drain pour, but people who like swallowing tablespoons of spices will like this beer. So much spice and almost nothing else. This is everything I don’t like in beer.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly hop forward with nice tropical fruit and citrus notes. Some light white wine notes and hints of oak and tannins. Hints of grain. Pours a hazy, golden color with a medium sized, moderately thick, white head that recedes to a thin film that lingers on the edges. Light lacing and faint legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with light sweetness. Medium white wine notes with some light oak and tannins. Medium hop notes with tropical fruit and citrus. Light bitterness. Light honey notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, the aroma on this is super nice because the hops dominate while the wine barrel provides background complexity. In the flavor the barrel notes and hops are more equal which doesn’t work as well for me. The honey adds a bit of complexity in the flavor but doesn’t show up much in the aroma. Probably my favorite sour from Hangar 24 so far.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle, 1450 of 2260. Aroma is fairly citrus forward with quite a bit of orange, but there is also some white wine notes, grape must and tannins. Light oak notes with medium acidic notes. Light pineapple and cherry pie notes. Pours a bright, hazy, copper orange with a medium sized, medium thick, slightly off white head that recedes immediately to the edges and disappears. No lacing or legs. Flavor is moderately acidic, but not sharp with a light sweetness. Moderate orange notes with some lighter white wine, grape must, pineapple and cherry notes. Some stone fruit and tropical fruit notes as well. Light tannins and oak notes. A touch of malt character. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer. The orange works well with the white wine barrels and there is some nice complexity from the barrels and wine notes. Acidity is nice and not overly sharp.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fruity with a fairly strong grape note as well as some grape must. Medium light caramel with lighter toasted bread. Some light red wine notes with hints of oak. Medium light acidity with some notes of tart cherries and under ripe plums and berries. Pours a somewhat murky, auburn brown with large, fairly thick, frothy, dark tan head that recedes fairly quickly. No lacing and small legs. Flavor is moderately acidic with moderately string grape and wine notes. Some light citrus, cherry, berry and plum notes, but its mostly grape and grape must. Some medium caramel notes with lighter toasted bread and a touch of toffee. Hints of the alcohol. More sweetness as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty nice grape sour, but not an amazing one. I think the malt profile does a pretty nice job of working with the grape character. Acidity is a bit sharp, but not too bad.
