Description
Hangar 24 began its craft brewing exploration with a true passion for good beer, the absolute love of flying and the pure enjoyment of being around great friends. My buddies and I used to meet at hangar No. 24 at the Redlands Municipal Airport, after an afternoon of flying, to trade stories, talk aviation, play music and share a few cold ones that were recently home brewed. These days, the location of where the beers are brewed has changed, but the quality time spent enjoying a delicious, handcrafted beer and conversation with friends is the same as ever. I personally want to invite you to join the adventure. Cheers! Ben Cook.

On tap at Real, Wild & Woody Beer Festival, pours deep dark orangey brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of whiskey barrels upfront, followed by caramel and dark fruits. Flavour is huge on the caramel, followed by bourbon and vanilla. Tastes like a barley wine. Decadent stuff.

The beer is a deep brown amber. Opaque. Thin beige head. Fine bubbles. Big sweet toasted malt flavor. Lots of caramel, a little bit of molasses, treacle. Some vanilla. Medium barrel notes. Some nice Rye and Bourbon action. Unexpected lack of sweetness in the taste. Lots of oak. It’s kinda weird. The feel is rich and full, really nice, but it somehow lacks the accompanying sweetness. I’m not really sure how they did that. It’s all wood and barrel. Pretty good amount of rye. It just almost completely lacks that sweet backbone to hold up the other flavors. Very odd beer.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a medium size dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of vanilla and bourbon with some woody notes, residual sugar notes and chocolate notes is quite powerful. Taste is a complex mix of bourbon, wood, vanilla, sugar and chocolate notes with light fruity notes is not for the faint of heart. Body is full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with some alcohol being clearly identifiable. Solid beer but maybe a tad unbalanced and a little bit too sweet for my taste.

Draught in Visalia. Hazy pale orange with full white head. Aroma and flavor hops are a tribute to American west coast brewing. Vibrant citrus and slight pine. Tasty.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is full of malt notes with lots of dark caramel, some light toffee notes and faint toasted bread. Moderate raisin notes with some lighter fig and prune. Medium light coffee notes with some light notes of dark fruit and nuts. Some light alcohol spice with a bit of oak and rye notes. Pours a hazy, moderate brown note with a light auburn hue on the edges with a small, tan head that slowly recedes to the edges where it lingers for a bit. No lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor has a moderate sweetness with some complex caramel notes as well as toffee and some lighter toasted bread notes. Moderate raisin with some prune and fig. Moderate bitterness accentuated by the coffee. Moderate coffee notes with some dark fruit and a bit of nut notes. Medium light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer with a nice base profile, but the coffee notes are a bit light. Good caramel and fruit notes, but I as expecting more I guess.
