I would not expect to encounter a New Mexico-brewed quadrupel. So this was a pleasant locate at Susan's in Santa Fe earlier this week. I dig the label, all very Southwestern. My Chimay glass is involved in the tasting from the 16.9 oz bottle with the pour being a dark caramel-brown finished by a very thin, light tan ring of foam. The nose gives notice of the wine barrel aging, little else gets through. A taste delivers a combination of dark fruit and grapes, yeast, malt and white bread. Actually there is improvement as the bottle warms up, I get more of a separation of flavors, the vinous effect receding somewhat. Decent but I am left wondering what the result would be without the wine barrels.
