Description
Established as the Matthews Brewing Co in 2005 by Stuart Matthews and Sue Appleby in a farm workshop estate in the village of Timsbury, a few miles outside Bath. Using the best ingredients such as Maris Otter malt , this small 5 barrel brewery soon became known for its distinctive, uncompromising ales.

Taken over by Dawkins Taverns and name changed in January 2010. The Brewery moved from Timsbury near Bath to Bristol in 2016.

Closed May 1st 2023 due to cost of living crisis.

On tap at the Three Horseshoes, Waddington. Pale golden colour with a crisp white head. Light citrusy malt aroma and taste. Medium to light body. Lively.

Cask-conditioned at the Victoria, Clifton Lido, 20/9/2016. GOlden and slightly hazy, with a decent, white, head. Tropical fruits aplenty, slightly spicy hops, crisp malts and a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Cask-conditioned at the Victoria, Clifton Lido, Bristol 6/9/2016. Golden in colour with a slight, off-white, head. Easy drinking pale ale, with some sweetish cereal malts, leafy hops and touch of stone fruit before a moderately bitter finish. fine.

Cask, on gravity at the brewery as part of the East Bristol Brewery Trail 27/8/2016. Hazy gold in colour with a decent, white, head. Floral hops, biscuity malts, and a touch of citrus fruit leading to a dryish finish. Good.

Cask-conditioned at the Green Man, bristol 23/6/2016. Golden in colour, with a frothy, white head. An easy drinking pale ale, with some cereal malts, leafy hops, sweet edge and moderately bitter finish. Ok.

Cask-conditioned at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 12/2/2016. Hazy yellow, with a thin white head. Some citrus hop character, sweet grainy malts, bubble gum and a hint of coriander, leading to a gentle finish. Fine.

Cask-conditioned at the Victoria, Clifton Lido, 10/10/2015. Deep brown with a slight, off-white, head. Aroma of dark fruit, roasted malts and a whiff of mint. Flavour was sweetish upfront with more fruits and toasty malts, before a touch more mint leading to a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

Cask at the commercial rooms Bristol. Clear golden yellow coloured pour with a lasting uniform creamy head. Aroma is subdued, honey, grains, not much to it. Flavour is composed of dirty grains, light honey, little hedgerow Berty and brambles. Palate is very soft and creamy in the mouth, lowish carbonation. Simple low boost gold. Heavy lace.
