330ml bottle into shaker, served at ambient temperature. Pours a mahogany red/brown with a large frothy coffee-coloured head. Looks fantastic. Nose is dark chocolate with some underlying fruit and grass. Full-bodied with a bitter coffee flavour that alternates with the smoke of an open fire. Really should be drunk outside around an open fire in the middle of Winter. Delicious.

[6/18] Bottle. Very dark brown; tan head is a cm then a rim and island. Aroma is smoky with moderate earthy roast, dark sugars. Lightish bodied, too fizzy. Drier than anticipated from the aroma with a sequence of increasingly toasty malt and sugary flavours (or am I being sucked in by the steinbier sizzle?) but not a whole lot of sweetness. Less smoke too. Some coffee. Bitterness is pretty firm and there's some pepper at the end too. [3.5]

[12/18] Still smells quite sweet but the fizz has declined and the malty/ smoky/ coffee flavours are better integrated. Really liking this one now - a bit more grunt than most S&W beers but the careful balance is still there. Think this can still be found, will get more. [3.7]

B tan h 4 A: rich but not lush with mocha and light smoke, burnt cream, dark berries - lovely and exceptionally well integrated 8++ Not much more than medium bodied v smooth, perhaps slightly alcohol thinned. Lacks a bit of bottom end due perhaps to modest sweetness. More coffee and almost ashy roast than chocolate. Earthy and spicy bitterness is really nice but is a little much given what’s before. Dunno if they will bottle this but could be very good with 6 months to mellow allowing the earthy spices (I can see "tobacco" written on the menu) sit back a bit.
