Description
Located near the stunning Mont Saint-Michel World Heritage site, La Chouette is produced in the cradle of France’s cider-making region. Cider-making has been a part of Pierre-Henri Agnes’ family tradition for three generations. Like Norman farmers of their time, both of Pierre-Henri’s grandfathers crafted traditional farmhouse cider (“cidre bouché”) with cider apples from their orchards or by buying cider apples and using the services of a mobile cider press and mobile Calvados still (a very popular approach in the 1940s to 1970s). When Pierre-Henri and his friend Alex decided to launch their cider company, Pierre-Henri remembered the story of an owl that would fly over his grandfather’s farm and dwell under the roof in the main building where his grandfather would store the fermenting apple juice. That owl was Pierre-Henri’s inspiration for the brand, La Chouette, which means “the Owl” in French.

Bottle. Clear golden. Sweet apple, cloves, sour apple, mulled wine, I guess there’s supposed to be chestnuts but it tastes like Christmas spices all over. Medium bodied, slightly dry. Meh.

Bottle. Clear golden. Nice pronounced funk but not super ‘dirty’, dry apple peel, quite earthy. Tannic but more in an oaky way. Light mineral. Light sweet. Medium bodied, quite dry finish, this is seriously brut.

bottle. clear golden, white head. leathery aroma, nuts, chestnuts, sour apple. the chestnuts add a deep complex cellary leathery aroma to the apple cider aroma, the end result reminds me of old cellar pubs with leather furniture, wine cellars etc. pretty nice aroma. very unique. flavor is apple, tart apple, fainter sour apple, leather, nutty notes, quite sweet, again the chestnut adds complexity and builds the flavor, does not feel like something was simly added to the cider, it's more like it has been made this way. The cider is quite a lot too sweet for my taste, but i do like it anyways, because of the complexity. surprisingly interesting...

Bottle picked up at Meny (Frederiksberg) and drunk at home - orange pour with a small white head. Sweet apple fruity, apple skin, very crisp, medium body, tingling carbonation and light acidity, with a lingering apple finish. Very nice.

bottle. BIO Clear yellow, small white head. Nice sweet and sour apple aroma, not apple juice, apple cider aroma. flavor is apple, rubber, dry feeling in the mouth, tastes like cheap spanish cider (that's a compliment). Decent non-industrial tasting cider, wild and rough.

Bottle shared with Daniele & Ippopotamo36. Rosè/ambrata, limpida, schiuma bianca leggera ed evanescente. Al naso note di mela matura, pera, leggero vinoso. In bocca è dolce con chiusura leggermente acidula. Corpo leggero, carbonazione brillante. Semplice, da aperitivo.
