Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear, copper pan colour. Bubbly, dirty white head. Fruity, ever so slightly smoky lager malts. Taste is soft sweet, turning light bitter. Moderate body. Finishes short, light, bitter. Not much going off here, but still pretty drinkable.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Hazy, lemon squash colour. Thick, dense, lasting, white head. Nose has crisp, lemony malts. Grassy hop. Light, fruity hop. Some mineral, too. Taste is crisp, light dry, with a floral sweetness. Clean palate. Finishes short, crisp dry. Very decent lager.

0,5 l bottle from a local bottle shop. Bright orange label. Murky pale copper in the glass, two finger white head. Some belgian style yeast and malt on the nose, but not a lot. Starts fruity with a lot of toasted malt, little bit dry, some bitterness. Can not really convince me.

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Wasn’t supposed to be having a beer tonight, but 9 hours with Lewis has kicked that idea’s head in. Anyway, it’s hazy bronze. Decent covering of sticky, white head. Aroma has sickly sweet malt. Bubblegum. Twigs. Faintest whiff of hop. It’s not bad, it’s just not IPA. Taste is mostly sweet, with a fairly nasty, acrid bitterness behind. Palate is a bit slippy. Finishes with more of that unpleasant bitterness. The last beer from this lot, I really enjoyed, but this is nonsense. At least I got it from Dave though, so it was cheap.

Clear golden and light copper coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of yeast, bright tropical fruits, hops, and a strong dose of sugar and alcohol - nice. Medium-bodied; Strong wheat flavours at first with a good flavour of fruits and light grass. Aftertaste shows a smooth hop flavour with a good dose of of wheat, yeast and grass. Overall, a nice beer with a good robust complexity - nice to sample, even if it is brewed in Munich. I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased from TOPS at Green Point in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa for 36,90 Rand, sampled in my hotel room here in central Cape Town a few hours later on 13-August-2015.

Clear golden coloured body with a nice, three centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of metal, light malt, earth, mushrooms and a bit of grassy light hops. Light to Medium-bodied; Metallic flavour up front with a light earthy malt, some light sugars and a touch of fruit noticeable. Aftertaste shows just some malty and earth flavours with only a little grain and hop flavours at the tail end. Overall, a relatively well-balanced beer with more of a metallic and earthy note than most Hellers, but not bad to try - I was initially upset that this said brewed in Bavaria (given that I just left Munich to come here), but I hope it has at least something to do with Cape Town. I sampled this 500 mL bottle, best before 18-March-2016, purchased earlier today at Simon’s Town Bottle Shop in Simon’s Town (Cape Town), Western Cape, South Africa on 13-August-2015 for ZAR32,90 sampled in my hotel room here in Central Cape Town later in the evening.

Geiles Sommerbier!

Euro2-Flasche: Hazy, golden, small white foamy layer; yeasty and citrussy-fruity nose with a wheaty (?!) touch; mainly sweetish flavour with a slight acidity (not caused by an infection!), medium bodied and sticky; increasing bitterness -but still on a quite low level- in the short sweetish-grainy and lemony finish. Totally dosappointing…
