Description
Sherfield Village Brewery started brewing in May 2011, using a five-barrel plant. We're based on a farm in the North Hampshire village of Sherfield on Loddon. As well as a range of traditional British bitters and stouts, we also make extensive use of New World hops, particularly the heavily floral and citrus-loaded New Zealand hops such as Green Bullet, Motueka and Pacific Jade. We're small, which means we're flexible as regards delivery times - by sticking to a local area for direct deliveries we're able to deliver quickly - usually within a couple of days. We are on SIBA's DDS list, so available to Enterprise, Admiral and other group pubs. SVB is a few miles north of Basingstoke and just ten miles south of Reading. Note that all our beer is supplied to the pub trade and to festivals in plastic 9-gallon firkins. Note that all our beers are now unfined, so vegan-friendly.

Cask at the Bird-in-Hand, Knowl Hill. Bright golden amber with a ring of white head; very floral aroma; soft and delicate in the mouth with a floral taste to start, but developing a pleasant bitterness with a long gentle finish. Very drinkable.

Cask at the Bird-in-Hand, Knowl Hill. Pale straw with a scummy looking white head; some weak tropical fruit aromas; a sweet grainy body with some orange fruit; and a dry bitter finish; but overall this seems rather muddled, and not as crisp as it could be.

Bottle from Andy. It pours near block with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, earth, coffee grinds, sweet chocolate, miso, soy sauce, light smoke and burnt plastic. The taste is roasted malt, toast, coffee grinds, ash, astringency, earth, rubberand burnt plastic with a dry finish. Medium body and high carbonation. Really not loving the burnt plastic and over-carbonation....

Cask at the Reading Beer Festival 2012. Pours clearish brown with a soft, tan head. Milk cocoa nose. Quite an inviting aroma; roasty malts, too. Flavor is OK but doesn’t follow through to match the snout. Milk chocolate, toasty sugars, light earth. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Sweet finish with chocolate, mild earthy bitterness, faint charred wood. Not getting much paprika. Alright.

Cask at the Reading Beer Festival 2012. Pours clear yellow with a fine, white foam head. Big butter and corn aroma, some hay. Light sweet flavor, grassy with dandelion hops, somewhat musty. Not super nice. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky sweet finish with hard grass and floral bite - kind of abrasive. Disjointed.
