Black with a thin, creamy, off-white head. Roasted undertones. Smells mostly though like milk and licorice. Sweet but manageable in moderate doses with both lactose and a vague nuttiness at the finish. Rich, silky smooth body. Mild carbonation. In the end, fairly simple. Ok.

Deep, deep gold with a frothy, white head. Aroma is perfumed corn husk, caramel. Taste is mildly bitter up front, sweeter at the finish with a mix of cornmeal graininess and caramel sweetness. Medium-bodied, moderate carbonation. Not bad.

First beer I’ve had from Tractor Brewing is a pint can of Haymaker bought in mid-summer at the Santa Fe Total Wine. The label says an ABV of 6%. Wheat ales are way down the list of my favorite styles but I’ll do this for a NM brewery. For this sampling I have out the New Belgium glass. I see a dullish gold liquid followed by a quickly disappearing top of snow white foam. The smell is all right with grain, toffee and honey. And the taste is simply better than the scent. Wheat certainly, an accurate delivery of honey, caramel and clover. Not a beer I’d seek out but would drink again if it came my way.
