Brewed in the heart of Sussex, East Hoathly
So why The 1648 Brewing Company? The answer is on the decree in the Houses of Parliament, with Oliver Cromwell’s signature on it to remove the King’s Head. The beer is brewed in the Old Stables and village forge just next to the Kings Head Pub where three Ales are always available from the brewery .

Cask, Bow Bar. Bright amber. Very toasty, earthy aroma. Incredibly toasty - like breadcrust, fresh from a wood oven, still glowing practically. Not the most balanced beer, but I really like the character.

Cask, gravity dispensed, at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Poured gold with no head; clean fresh honey aroma; sweet silky texture with a medium body and a good malty structure; the finish has perfumed honey and dry biscuit. A very drinkable example of a honey beer, moresih, refreshing, and not too sweet. Excellent.

Cask at the Evening Star, Brighton on 3 July 2010. Crystal clear copper with cream coloured lacing foamy head. Rich malt aroma with a pleasant agreeable sweetness to it, backed up by a rich hop that bounces off the roof of the mouth. Highly flavoursome for its low gravity and delivered on a zingy mouthfeel. Excellent.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2010. Mid bronw, thin beige head. Odd bitter, ok condition, just an odd slightly harsh taste to it. Not great to be honest.

Cask gravity at Reading BF 2010. More reddish brown to be honest. Decent rich mild flavours. Tasty enough, some hop on finish to tingle. Decent I thought.

Cask handpull at The Grove Tavern, Tunbridge Wells. Very deep ruby almost black with a disappearing beige head. Smoke and dark fruit aroma, some sour dark cherry/blackberry type fruit. Unfortunately a woman with unbelievably strong perfume has decided to stand in front of me so I can’t smell anything apart from her. Hoping she will move. Blackberry and damson aroma is excellent. Perfect condition in mouth and served perfectly. This is one of the best British smoked beers I’ve had. Stunning. Smoke and juicy dark fruits with a bit of a hop sting on finish. Stunning beer. I had just had an Orval and for something to make me feel this good, has got to be good. Maybe just a bit too juicy/watery on the malts. But still a hell of a beer.
