Description
In 1908 Ernesto Günther and a group of investors founded in the city of Cusco, a branch of the Cervecería Alemana Günther & Tidow. In 1939 Cervecera Alemana Günther & Tido changed its name to Compañía Cervecera del Sur del Perú (Cervesur) and increased its production. In 2000 the company with its plants in Arequipa and Cusco, and with the popular brand Cusqueña, becomes part of the Backus Group (Backus y Johnston), thereby consolidating itself to the point of turning it into a company capable of competing in a globalized environment. Finally, in 2015, the Backus Group becomes part of AB InBev.

Bottle I pir5chased in Cusco, April 2016. Light haze to this beer. Very light aroma and flavor, a little wheat. Very light.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has lots of stale wheat with a bit of sweetness and some underlying bread notes. Flavor is similar with sweet stale wheat with some underlying earthy grain

Bottle at Caracas, 4/16/16.
Pale golden, very light, filtered, force carbed, etc....small white head.
Smells nowhere near as offensive as some of the bigger offenders (bud lite, coors, icehouse, things like that). Cereal notes, wax, seltzer, light bready notes.
Very spritzy, bready, with stale cereal notes, saltwater, wax and a light bitterness on the finish that helps ameliorate some of the macro qualities. Not great, but passable if you’re low on options in Peru, I’m sure.

Bottle at Bodega in Birmingham. Pours golden with thin head. Aroma of hay and malts. Malt heavy taste with a little grass. Carbonation is OK. Just another pale lager

Thi is everywhere in Peru. Yellow lager. Nothing revolutionary here but for it is solid. All maltI believe, lightly sweet. Oalate is not thin, but this is refreshing.

A very good pale lager. Definitely crisp. Sweet and salty. Yellow appearance and drinkable in hot weather.

This is decent. Black beer from a bottle. Malt and caramel aromas. I assume this is a dunkel, and it is a sweet one. Lots of sugar, mild roasted flavor.

Backus Trujillo. Gold color. In between Pilsner and Cusquena. Malt flavot, some corn flakes cereal. Good carbonation. Refreshing, not too sweet, decent palate. It is a pale lager but a decent one.

Ubiquitous in Lima, 12oz bottles, pissy gold with some fading head. Nose is lesser than other developing world lagers, metal, lemon candies, stale bread. Flavor has more stale bread, straw, soggy biscuit. Finishes watery.

Fresh 12 oz. can thanks jcwattsrugger for the share! Crystal clear gold, piss color. Aroma is lager yeast, skunky and light corn. Flavor is mostly the same as the aroma. Skunky yeast is not overwhelming. Mostly corn and grain in a light watery body. Not offensive.

33cl bottle pours a clear dark gold/orange with some ringing, white head. Nose is a touch trashy, cheap orange juice, some esters, clove, banana, wheat chaff. Not overly pleasant. Flavor is chewy with straw and wheat, yeast, mild spice, some chewed bubblegum. Messy on the finish. Not real good.
