Description
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.

On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).

Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.

So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

Tap @ NSF14. Pitch black with a small light brown head. Smells bourbon, whisky, wood, peat, sweet, roasty, chocolate. Tastes bourbon, some peat, roasty, coffee, chocolate. Full body, nice carbo. Lovely!

Tap @ NSF14. I’m going to regret this. Brown to black colour with a small light brown head. Smells roasty mostly.. Not a lot of smell. Tastes peppery, roasty. Spicy. Medium body, soft carbo.

33cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! Black colour, beige head. Aroma of caramel/toffee, roasted malts, not much else. Flavour of caramel, roasted malts, light fruity, then overtaken by pepper. Quite hot, but not as hot or sharp as expected. Drinkable, but just for the sake of it.

33cl botle from Abcbeers. Thick creamy tan head. Clear black pour. Very spicy taste. Too spicy for me. The spiciness overwhelms the beer. Not in balance

Bottle @ ABC Beers. Clear pale orange color, medium sized white head. Aroma and taste are lightly malts, clearly thoroughly hopped but also a bit buttery. Thin texture, low to average body and carbonation. A respectful attempt, but not overly successful (yet).

Bottled, thanks Benzai! Cloudy dark straw colour, rich mildly gushing head. Interesting hop aroma: peppermint, flowers and grass. Mid dry with light body and firm, rounded mouthfeel. Light bready malt, grass and dough becomes more prominent towards a finish with marked but balanced bitterness. A really good thirst quencher.

Bottle shared thanks to Deanso. Pours near black with a medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, butter, fruity veggy chilli, chocolate and a sickly aspect. Flavour is light moderate sweet and bitter. The chillis don’t hit in the mouth, but certainly hit hard in the throat after, building in heat the more you drink. It’s too much and completely unbalanced, extreme for the sake of it. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Hazy light amber color. Small almost white head, quickly receding. Aroma’s of resin, citrus, some grain. Retronasal there’s more dark malts, fruit, citrus. Flavor is moderate bitter with grainy backbone. Light bodied, but not too thin. Nice bitter finish, not too harsh. Excellent Summer beer.

Bottle at Reading BF 2014. Hazy pale gold lasting white head. Lovely fresh noble hop aroma. A little puke in the mouth but the noble hops are excellent. Lovely. Wow the noble hops and bitterness finish is great.
