About
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.

On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).

Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.

So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

Clear dark brown to purple beer, small beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: alcohol, whisky, chocolate, coffee. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: alcohol, coffee, dark chocolate, bitter hops, bit sourish. Aftertaste: too much alcohol, bitter and hoppy, cocoa powder, coffee, dark chocolate.

Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige head, pretty stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very sweet, red forest fruit, bubble gum, bit sourish, mocha, caramel, sugary. MF: lots of carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sour, lots of red currants, blackberries, some tannin bitterness, quite some vanilla. Aftertaste: sourish, tannins, vinous, pretty bitter and hoppy, dry bit of caramel. Decent, but not super.

Cloudy milky grapefruit kind of yellow to light orange beer, no head. Aroma: very chemical, paint thinner, that's all. MF: no carbon, light body. Taste: urgh! Yuck, disgusting! WTF is wrong with you people? Why would you even serve something this god awful? Sick!

Borefts. Hazy yellow with almost no head. Citrus with lots of lemon. Deep spices with some juniper. Brett sourness with sour milk and some yoghurt. Quite interesting stuff, pretty good.

Borefts. Hazy yellow with small head. Lemon, light malts, lots of piny hops with citrus peel and grapefruit. Very bitter with a light sweet touch. Quite nice

Had this at Borefts BF, Bodegraven, Netherlands, Friday 26th September 2014 Pours hazy gold with filmy off-white head, furry bitterness and a buzzy lemon zippiness. Soft in the mouth, pleasantly bittersweet, very good beer. A6 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.6
