Description
Our mission is pretty much monomaniacal: to brew f*cking good beer. We call it craft-y beer because the owl's got a sharp, uncompromised tongue and a penchant for mischief.
On a typical day we toy with the familiar – unfiltered lager, silky hefeweizen and puckery American IPA, anyone? – but at night we explore the crafty beer extremes from our medieval watering hole Haarlem (That's Haarlem with two 'a's, the Dutch one, and the namesake of New York's single-'a'ed Harlem).
Really truly, our idea of fun is abusing the rauchbeer-Scotch ale-sour beer-oak-aged Imperial Stout-Barley wine clichés. The first rule of owl school: when using hops think in wheelbarrows and not buckets.
So enjoy us, drink us and by all means hop fans abuse us right back – ideally via our social media channels where we announce our very active new creations.

33 cl bottle from De Bierkoning @ home. Very dark color. Mocha colored head with short retention. Aroma’s:whiskey, umami, some iodine, some wood. Whiskey retronasal, with some iodine, burnt wood. Flavor is light to moderate sweet, whiskey, iodine, tar, some alcohol. There’s a lot of barrel in this one. Alcohol feel is pretty strong, warming. Body in the other hand is somewhat thin. Finishes somewhat ashy, umami and light bitter.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of lots of hops, pine, citrus, some tropical fruits. Flavour is only light malty, tropical fruits, grass, pine, decent bitter finish with citrus and pine. Light-bodied. Highly drinkable. Would happily drink loads of these.

Bottled, BB Feb 2015 so probably bottled on Feb 2014, large sample. Initially clear yellow color, medium frothy white head. Aroma of crispy grainy malt, earthy and flowery noble hops. Quite flowery and slight citrussy bitterness, crisp, clean, bit dry. Lovely german styled beer. Het Uitlje does it again! I want this stuff in crates!

On tap at the Groningen Bierfestival. Dark amber in the glass, small head, nearly no CO2. Mango and smooth at the nose. Taste starts with a lot of, may be too much mango, caramell and a medium bitterness. Thinner to the end.

On tap at Groningen Bierfestival. Cloudy orange in the glass. Starts bitter, more than expected. More mango than grapefruit, malty. Very low carbonated. Longlasting taste. Good one!
