Description
Mescan Brewery is named after Mescan the monk who was St. Patrick's friend and personal brewer. It is situated on the slopes of Croagh Patrick and is owned and operated by Bart Adons and Cillian Ó Móráin, two Westport vets who have been friends and colleagues for nearly 20 years. The pair spent four years perfecting their original recipes inspired by the beers of Belgium, Bart's homeland before starting to brew commercially in 2013. The water for Mescan beers comes from deep underneath Croagh Patrick via a spring beside the brewery. Malts, hops and yeast for the beer come from Belgium.

330ml bottle drank at home on 15th Sep 2017: thanks Emily and Andy for another Irish brew. Mini haze to the yellow body, white topping. The nose held a fruity, yeasty and spicy aromas, the taste followed along the same lines with the fruitiness to the fore. Liked it.

330ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, yellow-ish, dark golden colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Fruity and pale malty aroma, hints of gooseberry, a touch of peach and apricot, very cautious yeasty spicy overtones. Taste is slightly dry, fruity, hints of peach and apricot, light, biscuity malty basis with subtle sweetness; watery passages, sadly a bit anaemic overall.

At a tasting, thanks, smallish bubbly head, murky brown color, aroma of kvass and dark bread with some caramel, metalic bready flavor with some rubber and honey, coarse bitterness. Old and light, not good.
