Description
Our journey began with the end of founder and owner Andy Smith's former career in fine dining. An avid home-brewer, Andy sought to make fresh exciting beer that was difficult to find here in the UK. A move from his home town of Leeds to London soon presented the opportunity to work with Andy Moffat at Redemption Brewing in Tottenham. Here he studied and learned to ply his trade as a professional brewer whilst making many friends and contacts in the fast growing UK beer scene. In 2012, one of these friends, Evin O'Riordain of The Kernel Brewery kindly offered to pass on their original brew kit as the Kernel embarked upon expansion. A short time later, some premises secured just down the railway line, and Kernel and Partizan were established as neighbors; so the brewery was born.

The brewery relocated late 2017 from Almond Road to its current location.

Today

Ten years later and much like other small breweries across the UK Partizan has faced tough trading conditions; namely the lasting effects of the pandemic, soaring inflation and increasing rent. To both protect Partizan and avoid chasing inflation and increasing prices, the brewery moved its production out of London in 2023 to a farm in Market Harborough in rural Leicestershire, locating it at long-time friends, Langton Brewery.

We are now expanding the brewery here, on the farm. By Spring 2024 we will have a new fermenter hall and a greater capacity than we ever had in London which will allow us to brew exciting new beers and to collaborate with old friends and new. Despite the draw of the countryside our roots are still in London and we will continue to meet the demands of our customers in the city that we still call home.

Hazy mid-amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is crisp. Minerals. Fresh orange and orange peel hops. Touch of pink grapefruit and a whisper of passion fruit. Finishes smooth with mild bitterness. Super fresh and super drinkable. Lovely!

Bottle from Sourced Market I guess as it was with a load of other beers from there. Don’t you just love it when you are going through a box of beer and find something you didn’t know you had? Clear pale gold until a little yeast went in. Lasting white head. Lots of both hops on the aroma. Simcoe really comes through. Very tasty APA. Not overly bitter, not overly full in mouth. Disappears quickly so must be decent.

Aroma: Custard, lemon, vine tomatoes and white pepper.

Appearance: Hazy pale golden body with a medium white head. Light carbonation. Nice lacing.

Taste: Lemon, orange, grapefruit, white grape and yeast. Sharp and juicy with a hint of peppery spice in the finish. Lovely.

Palate: Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation fizz.

Overall: Bright, fresh and fruity - this beer is outstanding. It seems like Partizan’s speciality style is Saison. The three I’ve had from this brewery have all been fantastic, but this one tops the lot. As a side note, it reminds me of a yeasty, peppery version of Buxton’s SPA.

Bottle bought at Real ale shop, Twickenham. A hazy amber/orange coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Hoppy, citrus aroma. Tastes hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, pine. Sight bitterness to this IPA but still very good.

Bottle from Partizan. It pours lear pale yellow with a medium white head. The nose is dough, touch of spice, floral, orange, light sweetness and potpourri. The nose is zesty citrus, dough, straw, pleasant bitterness, grass, pepper and floral notes with a dry, lightly bitter finish. Light-medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Soft, smooth and very drinkable. Makes for a great breakfast beer!

Bottle from brewery drunk at home, far too late on a Friday evening given the fact that I have to get up in the morning and start work behind the bar at a beer festival on the Saturday. Rating 11,000. How did that happen? I mean when I first started Duff was the highest UK rater on 3,600, now I’m on 11k? And that first 1000 seemed so difficult. And it’s fitting I rate one of the new London breweries using American hops for my 11k rating. I love Kernel and Partizan and some of the other new London breweries that are part of the renaissance in micro brewing in the UK and in London in particular as it was not as well served for beers as a city of its renown and size should have been. And Andy is a lovely chap at Partizan. Darkish beer with a lasting beige head. Toffee and citrus hop aroma. Certainly a deeper, fuller more malty IPA than the brewery up the road. I kinda like the toffee sweetness and then the citrus and bitterness on the back end. An interesting take on a modern IPA. I do like the malts in this I must say, but I also like the big aggressive finishing hop. A well balanced beer. Like I keep saying, beer has to have balance and this one does. Jeez I’m agreeing with Ken again. Is there no hope for me? This one goes to everyone I’ve shared a beer with over the past 8 years on Ratebeer, but in particular to the much missed Haddonsman. Cheers Simon.

Bottle at the brewery. Crystal clear yellow straw, fluffy white head. Really good looking beer. Aromas of hay, wet grass, and touch of lemon. Flavour is really crisp mineral lemon with a slight cif thing going on. Finishes dry. Soft palate.

Bottle from the brewery drank at home. Hazy cloudy gold with lasting white head. Big tangerine citrusy citra aroma with some funky yeast. More dirty and funky in the mouth with the citra making a big impact on the finish with bitterness and tangerine and Satsuma. Just a touch of conflict between the yeast and the hops I think produces a slight rubber flavour. But it is slight. So I like the aroma, but that touch of funky rubber is not quite my thing.

Bottle from the brewery drunk at home. Pale gold lasting white head. Saison aroma with some hop and some citrus. Slightly fuller and less soapy than the spiced version but as Ken says, it may not be quite as interesting as the spiced. I did like the pepper in the other one. The orange and lemon are muted, there, but not dominant. Good hops again, but I liked the spiced more. Wow Ken and I agree on a beer.
