We brew beer that is distinct because we believe that moments together call for something memorable. It could be our Midwestern roots, or the land we draw inspiration from, but crafting the right beer for the right moment is central to us.

Refrigerated 2011 bottle from JoePeesie set on the counter for a bit and poured into a cigar city snifter. Pours black with dark brown highlights and small light brown head. Little lacing, medium body, sticky texture, and sweet bourbon/roasted malt aroma. Taste is roasted malt, bourbon, oak, some vanilla, and light bitter finish. This is good.

12oz bottle oddly not rated until now. Deep what looks to be unfiltered burgundy-brown. Thin, steady, creamy white head. Smooth, mellow chocolate aroma. Full and official, a really nice chocolate edged Porter. Middle of the road, but true to style, really well balanced. Thick specialty malt tones, on the lighter side of full-bodied. Solid offering.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of camons. Thanks René! Cloudy brown appearance with a light brown head that dissipates pretty quickly. Roasted, burnt coffee grounds, slightly boozy whiskey, caramel, rich vanilla aroma. A bit boozy, burnt coffee, thick oaky, vanilla, toffee, somewhat acidic flavor with some fruity undertones.

Draft at Alchemy. Hazy orange tan, with a big foamy off-white head. A pretty respectable offering, big fruity yeast esters, but surprisingly mellow and drinkable. Nice Styrian(?) hop balance gives it an authentic flavor. Semi lacking in terms of effervescence. Pleasantly clean and well attenuated, not a sticky mess at all. A pretty tasty beer, above average for a stateside example.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of the always generous kbutler1. This barley wine pours a reddish maroon appearance with a small tan head. Here we have a very rich, thick caramel, bourbon aroma with a shit load of dark fruit like plums, tons of toffee, vanilla, and lots of rich aroma that’s delicioso. The flavor is quite rich and fairly boozy, but nice. There’s a ton of dark fruit- plums, figs, dark grapes, dates- in the flavor along with a ton of vanilla, oak, sweet booze, and toffee. There’s a fuck load of flavors going but you have to deal with the plethora of booze. I’ll take it.

Bottle @ Timbers, Denver. Pours black with a offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, light oak, vanilla. Taste is roasted malt, expresso, coffee, both dark and milk chocolate, vanilla, oak, bourbon, dark fruit. Medium body, soft carbonation. Very nice BA stout, just lacks a bit of body and complexity to be really great. 100312
