Description
Sunbeam Ales is a Leeds based microbrewery run by Nigel Poustie. It was established in 2012 and has developed a reputation for multi award-winning cask ales. The brewery is only 2BBL so limited amounts of the sort after cask ales are distributed around Yorkshire.

Nigel mostly brews once a week, occasionally twice, rotating through a range of beers. Periodically he will brew a seasonal special, often incorporating foraged ingredients. The brewery doesn’t hold much stock, so it is a good idea to place pre-orders.

Beer 31 of the Bradford Beer Festival 2025. Golden, hoppy, certainly sessionable, slips down the palate with ease. Hint of fruit, slightly more sugars.

Deeper golden colour. Beer 30 at the Bradford Beer Festival 2025. Quite a light tasting hoppy beer, easy through the palate. Just a hint of fruitiness, a smattering more of sweetness.

Halifax Beer Festival 2023. Dark reddish brown in colour. Has a good old ale sweetness, perhaps lacks depth of style through a lower strength, but flavoursome all the same.

Bradford Beer Festival 2024. Hazy dark amber-red in colour. Has a strength-infused sweetness in both aroma and taste, as a festival special it also has been classed as a Belgian Dubbel and I get where that's coming from too.

Cask at Bradford CAMRA beer festival 2024. Pours near clear pale straw gold. Nice NZ hop vibes, gooseberry, white grape etc peeking through. Decent dry, light bitter finish. Nicely accomplished

Cask @ Flying Horse Hotel, Rochdale. Golden with a creamy head. Hoppy with berry-sweet floral notes in both aroma and taste and at a session strength, although not particularly sessionable in taste in my opinion.

Cask @ Fox And Goose, Hebden Bridge. Light golden with a bubbly head. Has a pleasant mild bitterness to what is a pleasantly hoppy session brew.

24-27/10/2023. From the wood at the 45th Norwich Beer Festival. Pours slightly hazy dark plum brown with a small bubbly/frothy off-white head. Aroma is malty, toffee, chocolate, maltesers, cocoa dust, woody hint. Medium sweetness, light roasted bitterness. Moderate body, slightly oily, soft carbonation. Drying finish. Pretty decent.
