Description
Old Worthy Brewery is the project of Nick Ravenhall on the Isle of Skye which started in 2012. The label's name comes from 'local worthies', Islay distillery men legendary for their hard work and their production of fine Islay single malt whiskies. Beers were initially brewed under contract by Isle of Skye but have mostly been brewed at Broughton.

Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk and home. Ebony, opaque with a khaki head. Chocolate-led scent with toffee, savoury liquorice and a slight spicy hop. The bitterness in the taste is as intense as it is unexepcted. The malts taste almost burned. However there’s an underlying sweetness which serves to balance. Palate is fairly thin. A curate’s egg of a beer but it has enough character to hold my interest.

Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk at home. Sienna brown, hazy, a small khaki head and loadsa carbonation. Earthy hop scent with plum and toffee. A hint of the smoke somewhere in there. Smoke more pronounced in the taste, which starts sweet but quickly turns bitter from the complex hop. Bittersweet finish. Slight body without being too weak. Not overly exciting but pretty damn solid.
