Sample at Ale Wine & Spirits in Powell on 09/02/2011. Pours black with a medium thick and fluffy beige head that recedes slowly. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium to full body with a roasty coffee and malt character and flavors of dark chocolate and a touch of oak. The finish is charred malt with a black coffee aftertaste. Solid Stout all around.

From a 500ml bottle on 4/9/2011. Pours a deep red amber with a small head. Has quite a strong fruity (berries), hoppy aroma, with some caramel malt. Taste wise, it begins with some caramel toffee sweetness but this is quickly overtaken by a powerful, long and quite sharp hop bitterness. An unusual and excellent brew which is chock full of flavour.

Black with a mammoth and slightly annoyingly large head. Aroma is smoky, salted ham, light roasted malts, cocoa. Flavor is smoked malts, salted, ham, caramel, and a hint of chocolate. Pretty decent smoke.

Medium beige head. Deep red body. Intense citric tropical fruit and pineapple aroma with milky caramelly notes and a touch of alcohol. Dry-sweet grapes citrus and tropical fruit taste with wooden spicy notes. Fullish body. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry-sweetish mango strawberry and wood aftertaste with spicy grape notes. Excellent! Intensely drinkable and full of flavour. (0.5l bottle, Fish & Beer, Copenhagen.)

Bottle for the Co-Op in Davis, CA. Pours very dk brown/black with a slight creamy tan head. Aromas of chocolate and prune. Full bodied. Flavor is lightly smoked burnt malt, coffee and chocolate. Fruit? It’s definitely bitter. Not harsh tho. Just burnt, chocolaty and bitter. Nice stuff.

clear amber, smooth light brown head. very nice hoppy and bitter, but also berryish dark fruity and caramelly and malty aroma. complex and full bodied. flavor is malty, bitter hoppy, faint dark fruity, faint fruity, lots of flavor considering "only" 7%, tastes like a dipa. palate is a little thin for a dipa though. flavorfull beer.

Bottle 500ml. @ home.Unclear - hazy medium red - orange amber colour with a large, frothy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, light heavy hoppy, citrus, pine, wood, orange - citrus. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, hoppy, malt sweet, dry, resin - phenol notes. Body is medium, texture is oily and sticky, carbonation is soft. [20110827]

Cloudy dark orange with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and rather hoppy - pine needles and peach. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. 230811

Bottle. Pours thick with a black body and a tan head. Good retention and lace. Aroma are show a surprisingly big herbal character. Chocolate, cocoa, light hints of dark fruits, medium esters, lots of dark chocolate, raisins, pine, and fudge. No phenols, diacetyl or otherwise. Earthy, biscuity and some pie crusts with the malt profile. Very thick on the palate. Flavors of earth, peppery, a hint astringent from the dark roast. Bitter, chocolate. Bitter balance overall. Malty, woody, coffee, woodsie notes. Some tobacco. Could use a touch more malt sweetness for my palate. Creamy, full bodied, thick and velvety. Medium to light carbonation. Quite warming. Tasty.
