Description
We are Boutilliers, a small brewery based around the back of a farm shop in Faversham (Macknade fine foods if you were the curious sort.) Originally founded by 2 former uni buds, Boutilliers is now run by Rich, a former english teacher, and Drew, professional loud mouth. Our core focus is to brew creative styles and innovate with the resources we have to hand. When possible we like to use produce from local companies including tea and hops but we’ve not limited ourselves to this philosophy. Beer is an infinitely sprawling landscape with an equal number of potential possibilities, we don’t wish to simply make the same beer every time we brew, we want to explore, we want to play, we want our beer to be fun.

Half pint at Beer Cellar in Exeter, pours a hazy corn yellow with a ring of white head. Nose has a lemony note, vinous, a little soapy, herbs. Flavor has just the lightest grain bill and grist, then lemon, herbs, soap. Finishes dry, lightly bitter. Very drinkable.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up at CRAFT N DRAFT, Shoreditch. Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. Strong ashy roast character, dry tobacco, scorched earth, bitter chalky cocoa. Light bodied with average carbonation. Bitter finish, some burnt grass, more ash, woody dryness. A bit aggressive overall.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty-spicy, chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of cocoa, hints of dark chocolate, a touch of lovage. Taste is dry, bitter, roasty, chocolately dark malty, very subtle sweetness, notes of cocoa, dark chocolate, coffee, white coffee, hazelnut flavoured coffee, some cream on top (this impression may be strengthened by the long lasting creamy head partially topping every sip). Creamy texture, smooth and soft palate. Very nice.
