About
Our biggest mission when we set up BrewDog was to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. And that is still our biggest mission today.

(Cask at The Rake, Southwark, London, 24 April 2008) Dark brown colour with brief, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of chocolate and dried fruit. Roasted, slightly malty taste with chocolate, dark fruit and mud. Thin body. Not really impressive. Suppose I’ll have to give it a rerate when possible.

Clear golden color, small white head. Buttery, slightly diacetylic, Bohemian-pils like nose. Buttery, hoppy flavor with similarities to Mufloni NZPA’s hop profile. Nicely balanced, chewy malty pils. Good Urquell-imitation. Not exploding your mind, but good one.

Colour is black with a sinking head. Aroma is tar, iodine, smoke and ash; smells a lot like a good islay whisky. Flavour is more tar, firewood, coal and maybe some notes of coffee. Yet it’s quite smooth and quaffable. Long after taste. The guys at Innis & Gunn could learn a thing or two from the BrewDog guys I think.

Pitch black color, not much head. Smokey Scotch single malty whisky is dominating the aroma, but there is also underlying sweetness and licorice. Medium to full bodied - suprisingly easy to sip. Oak, smoke and tar dominate, almost more like drinking whisky than imperial stout. Aftertaste is not so aggressive than expected. Smokey, tarry, some hoppy bitterness. Balanced brew. I am not a whisky drinker, but I like smokey single malts, so this beer is pretty enjoyable.

(Cask at Gallows Bird on 2008-01-26) Nose and taste both contain clear Islay whisky aromas. Also roasted malts. Some hops can felt, as well. I enjoyed this.

(Cask at Gallows Bird on 2008-01-26) Very clear. A bit yellow colour. Fruity hops in nose and in taste, too. Rather light bodied but some malts can be tasted. The bitterness lasts in the aftertaste quite long. Still, a bit dull IPA.

Bottle from Utobeer. Never had a whisky cask IPA. I really like the PUNK IPA this is based on, but not keen on Ardbeg or any Islay whisky. So I was interested. Gold with thin white head. Unmistakeable islay aroma. Softened slightly by hops. The IPA stuff is great, good body, tasty grapefruit hop. The TCP/peat is actually not as strong as I feared. It would still be better as a straight IPA I think. Given the fact that I gave the Paradox islay a 0.9/5 this gets more. Still, get rid of the Ardbeg and you’d have a good beer.

Cask handpull at The Rake. Gold, thin beige head. Buttery diacetyl aroma. Rest of the beer is ok with some biscuit and some bitterness. Beer is ok, but aroma is just too buttery for me. Will pormise to re-rate if/when I see it again.

Black with a slight red highlight. Tiny tan head. Sweet and fruity whisky aroma, vanilla oak, chocolate. Strong oaky flavour, somewhat sweet, mostly tannin and vanilla, somewhat less roast malt.

Black with a slight red highlight. The tiniest tan head. Aroma is dark fried fruit, toffee, chocolate, and a little smoke. Sweetish and hard roasted flavour, only a little spicy, alcoholic whisky character, and a touch of tannin in the finish. Clearly they have missed the carbonation on this one, which is a shame, because it’s got some good, promising beer character.
