Two hand-pulled pints in The Cock Hotel, Wellington (Shropshire) on 8 Apr 2013. Light golden brown body with a creamy head in texture and colour, looked fine on both pours. The brew has a slight malt aroma and a semi-sweet malty start to its taste, the hops arrive towards the end of each sip to give the beer a pleasant dry hop finish. Overall this was a good beer, fairly sweet but not over-the-top in any of its attributes, just a well made balanced brew.

Nice roasted aroma but not overstated and similar character in its flavour. Medium bodied. Black with a small creamy head.

Cask at the Pretty Bricks, Walsall. Poured a rich dark chesnut colour with a broken tan head. The aroma is weak but with malty notes. The flavour is bitter with strong liqourice and fruit. A nice tasty winter ale packed with flavour.

Cask at the Birmingham Beer Festival 2012. Clear dark brown pour with a thin white broken head. Big fruity dry malt aroma. The zesty malt flavour hits the palate right away but there is little bitterness. Very drinkable, but it won't become a favourite.

Gravity pour from a Firkin at ’The Lighthouse Picture Place’ in Wolverhampton during their showing of ’Roll Out The Barrel’. This was one of three Morton Brewery beers available on the day. As its name suggests: this is a golden/light amber coloured brew, the head didn’t really show from the pour my pint got! Floral hop aroma and taste: single hopped with Sovereign and some dry hops in the cask after brewing gives it those characteristics. I am not usually a fan of ’single hopped’ beers but this one seemed fine to me. The 4.4% ABV sat nicely within the body of what was a refreshing if slightly one dimensional brew.

Gravity pour from a Firkin at ’The Lighthouse Picture Place’ in Wolverhampton during their showing of ’Roll Out The Barrel’. This was one of three Morton Brewery beers available on the day. My pint had an amber body and a thin off-white head that tried to hang around for a while. The aroma and taste were both malty molasses style: caramel being the biggest player. The beer had a semi-bitter finish but it is mostly a malty brew and on the sweeter side of things. The body depth was slick and almost creamy (for a UK bitter): I suppose the great dollops of caramel that must have been added made it feel that way? Have they played with this beer: my rate is at odds with all the others (so far)?

Gravity pour from a Firkin at ’The Lighthouse Picture Place’ in Wolverhampton during their showing of ’Roll Out The Barrel’. This was one of three Morton Brewery beers available on the day. The beer is mid-gold with a thin white head on my pour: the brewery says this about it. Pale, bitter, strong, hoppy. A true IPA using Pale malt, Lager malt and a generous charge of Brewers Gold hops for a powerful aroma. I didn’t get the powerful aroma but it does have a hoppy bite to both its smell and taste. Refreshing and easy drinking IPA: this breweries beers are growing on me.

From notes: hand pulled pint during a Black Country tour on 24th March 2012, pub unknown! Misty golden body with a tight, full head of off-white foam. The nose was hoppy, citrus, fruity and woody with hints of the sweetness that would come in the taste. Flavours varied as the beer level sank in the glass: orange, caramel, wood, bittering hops, but no jelly! Each flavour didn’t stand alone but came to the fore in turn and disappeared into the background allowing other tastes to shine through. Enjoyed it, but only had the one pint.

Hand pulled pint in The Cock Hotel, Wellington on 2nd Feb 2012. Really black body, jet black with no hint of redness or ruby hints: this is black. The thin tan coloured head lasted the whole pint. The nose was of roasted dark chocolate on a bed of peat with a scattering of berrys thrown into the oven as well. The taste follows the smells only with a drier feel, this is a fairly bitter tasting Stout actually, for roasted think almost burnt chocolate malts and you are there. The body wasn’t as heavy as the flavours suggest maybe, but it suited the feel correctly: a nice Stout.
