Description
Wylam Brewery was set up in a disused dairy on a farm near Heddon on the Wall in May 2000 by John Boyle and Robin Leighton driven by their passion for real ale. The brewery grew rapidly on the strength of the quality of its ales, winning awards at festivals around the UK. They outgrew the original 1000L plant in 2006 and brought on-stream a new 3500L plant in August in a bespoke barn conversion. Since then they have enjoyed continued strong growth. In Summer 2016, the brewery moved to its current location at the same time expanding to a 30BBL plant.

On keg at Beer House, Hillsborough. Big hoppy bastard, bright and fizzy. Good citrus lead, some tropical notes, bittersweet finish. Straightforward enough big hitter.

CBJ Bottleshare. Thanks to Colin for the can. Near clear dark brown beer, small tan heads. Smooth palate, soft airy palate, mildly dry, reasonable fine carbonation in the back end. Sweet tangy dark chocolate malts, a little dark malt cream. Modest bourbon soaked ripe fruits. Soft creamy sweet finish. Tidy.

Really nice. But £6 for a pint... mixed thoughts on that which are not explainable on a checkin.

Can from De Bierliefhebber. Aroma is fruity hops with citrus, dark malt, tropical fruits, grapefruit, dank Mosaic, and pine resin. Flavour is moderate sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium, pretty smooth. Very much on the IPA side of BIPA, hardly any roast and chocolate, but lots of fruity hops and pine. Tasty!

Can from De Bierliefhebber. Aroma is strong vanilla with roasted malt, liquorice, marshmallow, molasses, chocolate, syrup, touch of coffee and a hint of dark fruits. Flavour is sweet with a roasty bitterness. Body is above medium. Can't say I'm crazy about this one, I'd like a lot more chocolate and less liquorice. A bit disappointing considering the collaborating parties, but multiple platforms show that a lot of people really enjoy it. Guess it comes down to personal preference on this one.

Can from De Bierliefhebber. Aroma is sweet fruits with spicy estery yeast, apricot, canned peach, pale malt, candied fruits, and notes of mango. Flavour is medium sweet and a bit tart. Body is medium. Nicely fruity, overall a little sweeter than how I prefer my farmhouse ale, but there's a little tartness as well.
